Went here yesterday. Service was not amazing; A bit snobby actually. I guess the service was good enough; but not super friendly. They seemed a bit put off when we told them that we had no reservation. Empty at first, but filled up fast. Nice enough atmosphere. It’s one of those restaurants that offers various types of meat ( ex: bison, ostrich, duck, etc). Had a beef burger it was very good tasting and you could specify the doneness. It came with some fries and flavour less ketchup. Also had a checouterie version of an appetizer…the ostrich flavoured sausage slices were as appealing as the ketchup.. with 3-4 chips and some other flavour less granular dip for 9$ , as well as i tried their draft beer entitled the unfiltered fist of God, and though it was good initially, it left an aftertaste much into the evening. Would I go back?..Maybe for the atmosphere…but not in any great hurry.
I had dinner here the other night while in the area on business.I’m not exactly sure how to describe it – there is an upscale feel to the place (supported by the prices), and yet there is a laid back feel. I don’t know that it’s strictly ‘farm to fork’, but again that’s the kind of feel you get from the place. It’s small, just off the main street so make sure you know where you are going. The staff was friendly and professional and the service from the kitchen was excellent, as was the food. I had the beef, and it was as good as you could ask for, as we’re the sides and garnsihes; fresh and flavourful.Entrees will run you about $30+ per head but the quality makes it worth the price. Bring your appetite, this place is worth the money.
Visited Primal for a friends birthday celebration and was not disappointed. The restaurant accommodated a table of ~10, and the service was excellent. Good selection of drinks and a concise food menus. I ordered the beef which was cooked to perfection. The sides were good, and the jus was delicious. With a few steak restaurant options available in Halifax, this is above many of them! We will definitely visit again when visiting Halifax.
Primal Kitchen is a little gem. It is unfortunately tucked away on a side street, and therefore, the customer traffic was very light during our first visit. We like the fact that the restaurant sources a lot their offerings from Nova Scotia farms and their craft beers are local as well. Their menu serves a lot of meats not found in majority restaurants in the Halifax area. Very refreshing, indeed. As appetizers we had bison sausage, chicken pate, pulled rabbit with duck fat topping, pickled onions, gherkins, and grapes, with some crostini and kettle chips. My wife had the duck confit which she found very delicious and I had the duck breast. I was very satisfied with my choice. The dish presentation was very appealing. The decor of the restaurant is very laid back with repurposed wood panelling, Our server was very pleasant and attentive. We must give this restaurant 5 stars. We will be back to sample more of their menu.
I had the short rib…scallop spring rolls…flour less chocolate cake for desert.all dishes were excellent and service was outstanding.lots of local products and several local beers.this place has been on the top 10 list for new restaurants in Canada.dont let this one pass you by.Dec 3….had the ribs found them very salty and the beans that came with it were firm..undercooked.My chicken tacos were good.My date had frog legs and duck…both very good.waitress left us a bit too long between main and desert.PLace still on my top 5 in hfx.Guess you can’t always hit home runs 🙂
