So….we went back again. The restaurant changed the menu and we were enticed to return. Again, the service was exceptional. We ordered the chacuterie board, which features house-made meats and relishes. It was phenonminal. The fish cakes were also really wonderful. The chef came out to say hello, and he was very lovely to speak with. Clearly very proud of his employees and their product. And for good reason. We are very impressed with the restaurant. You should go.12 Aug, 2014We stayed in the attached hotel, and as a part of a package deal, got some coupons for dinner. We were honestly not expecting too much and came away very happy. First – a note on the service. We say in the bar both times we went and had exceptional service from Lorne and then Tim. Both were attentive, funny and exceptionally well-informed about the menu. We enjoyed the happy hour pricing on some wine and appetizers. Standouts from our visits: lobster poutine, fish tacos, mac & cheese, scallops. We will go back again.
TEMPO Misses A Beat. Have been there a couple of times and was pleasantly surprised on the first visit. Great service, modern (if slightly Gen Y decor) and the Po Boy was excellent, as was the chowder. However, the second visit involved the Beer Can Chicken – avoid it as it is very greasy and totally tasteless. I will give it one more try before deciding to add it to my ‘list’ of decent eateries in this city.Washrooms are totally inconvenient as you have to go into the hotel and take an elevator to another floor. This was office space so it was never intended to be a restaurant and in that regard it shows.
Had the Tempo Burger….the bun literally started to fall apart in my hands right after I picked it up. What I could keep together ended up sopping wet…not impressed. Definitely need options for toppings. The fries were slightly over cooked….. If you want a great burger & fries downtown, I suggest looking elsewhere…
All and all a positive experience. I had the chowder and it was above expectations. Service was incredibly attentive and professional. Top score. My only negative feedback is that Tempo has a bit of an identity crisis. It’s not sure if its contemporary casual or a higher end culinary experience and sort of gets caught in between. When I spend $27 on a main plate I’m surprised to be greeted with the smell of the frier when I walk in and views of the inside of the mall. But the food was good – really good and that’s what counts.
