And furthermore. I ordered pie al a mode and ice cream on it !!!19 Jan, 2012What Up With That. I went to The Carleton and asked to dine Al Fresco and they made me eat outside!!! Fortunately they have a lovely patio19 Jan, 2012Hamburger. Holy smokes. Home grown grass fed beef on a bun with frites to die for. get bacon too. They also have Pabst Blue Ribbon on tap! I know
Best Venue In The Country? I think YES. The best live music in the city for sure (Music Nova Scotia’s Venue of the Year for 2009, 2010 and 2011) and a great place to eat too. Atmosphere is as historically cool as it gets in Halifax.AND there’s something about being able to see the likes of Ron Sexsmith playing 10 feet away from one’s table and having a someone bring one Steak Frites and a decent bottle of wine to one’s table during the performance…Try getting that anywhere else in town…
The Carleton Music Bar and Grill. Says what it is. Great music, great food. Love the Lamb Lollipops and get the burger with blue cheese and bacon oh so decadent and oh so good, wash it down with a large glass of Heavyweight and close with a signature cheesecake, Any questions? Good.
Lucky choice!. We wanted to try the Wooden Monkey, which locales have told me had the best lobster roll in town, with local ingredients. Unfortunately, and not specified on their website, they are not open on Monday, so we stopped in here!Quite the menu for a pub, and turned out to be great. Had the fried haddock with parmesan risotto, and the risotto was really well done. The fish was decent, but the service was great and the risotto was worth writing home about. Nice place, looks like it would be a great time to go for live music as well. Also was recommended to try a local red beer, WOW, tasty for sure! Great little place!
Visited the Carleton again recently for an intimate concert. Arrived at 7, ordered at 730, received meal at 915. I recognize that there was a concert but they should staff for it. The slowness of the service aside, I ordered the lamb lollipops and they were fine, not outstanding but ok. I ordered the chocolate Marquis for dessert- that was delicious. My dinnermates ordered the curry seafood pasta dish-the exact same dish and it was 2 completely different colours and tastes-go figure. Again, not terrible but not spectacular. Would I go again? Yes, especially for a concert because it is a fantastic venue. I would have a pre-concert snack in case you have to wait.11 Sep, 2009Enjoyed a tasty spinach salad with chicken. Service was prompt and the staff were friendly but left us alone to chat during our time there. Will visit again.
The service was abrupt and generally below standard. The side of rissoto that with the dish I ordered was very poorly prepared, as though it was made in the microwave.
Nice atmosphere and frites aioli were good and salty. Somewhat limited menu for such a big place. Server was a bit rude but she was prompt.
