The waiter, Joel, offered exceptional service. He was attentive and suggested delicious dishes. The ambiance was perfect, it wasn’t to loud. The food was cooked to perfection and arrived fairly quickly. The desert (smores brownie) was my favorite part, since I am big on deserts.

Good location, good menu selection. Stopped in twice, once for breakfast, once for supper. Great staff on both occasions. Meals didn’t stand out as the best while visiting Halifax, but not the worst either. This place was recommended by locals at the hotel we stayed at, would visit again with no hesitation.

It is a traditional seafood restaurant so it has the traditional atmosphere. The food is decent but the price is rather high. I had the ‘five thing’ as my main and it was a decent size. Wouldn’t go here on a regular basis but it is a nice spot when taking out important business clients for dinner.

Having heard everyone rave about this place, I was a little disappointed. While it’s not bad, it didn’t really amaze me. The price was really good considering we got the happy hour menu, but otherwise I wouldn’t pay the full price for that quality. Furthermore, there was sand in all 5 scallops we ordered. However, the waiter was super sweet and took it off of our bill even though it wasn’t meant as a complaint. Overall, we had a good impression of it, but I’m not sure if I’d recommend it and I don’t think it’s worth the hype.

So. Second night in Halifax. scallops for appetizer and lobster for dinner. Service-five star. I can’t complain about anything except the bill which I expected. Awesome place.

Save your money and eat elsewhere. Very disappointed. Although I am from Toronto, I have been to Halifax numerous times and have tried many different restaurants in the city. You can skip Five Fisherman. It is way too over-priced for their bland menu. And that’s coming from someone who is willing to pay $50+ for a tiny entree if the flavours are worth it. I visited this restaurant with a large group. I ordered the oysters (which came after my entree) and the lobster linguini. The other members of my party had the Arctic Char, the lobster, the lamb, and the salmon. I was able to taste everyone’s dish as everyone was enthusiastically willing to share (probably because they could not finish their food). My linguini was bad. It tasted like pasta soaked in lemon juice, left out to dry, and splashed with olive oil 30 seconds before being served to me. However, the fried lobster on top was cooked beautifully and the flavour made up for the sour linguini. The oysters were okay, although the flavours were inconsistent. Some were sweet and fresh, while the others were salty and fishy. They also had an oil-based sauce which tasted like…. oil. It added no taste to the oysters. Just made me greasy. But my palate might have been ruined since the oysters were served AFTER my entree. The lobster was what you can expect from lobster. Lobster is good. But it was nothing out of the ordinary – it tasted like boiled lobster lol. The lamb was actually really good – flavour-wise. A little dry and crusty, but that’s no blame to the chef. The person in my party ordered it well-done. She shouldn’t have. The salmon tasted like home-cooked salmon (in a bad-way). Like someone had a long day at work and was lazy so they decided to fry the salmon with some butter, lemon juice and an herb blend from the grocery store. The Arctic char was terrible. We couldn’t finish it. The flavours were strong and unappealing. Other reviews complained about portions. I think they were fair. When a restaurant labels themselves as a higher-end establishment, smaller portions are expected. Five Fisherman won’t leave you hungry though. That is, it you are able to finish your entire meal. It was such a disappointing experience. Aside from the friendly staff, beautiful location and cute ambiance of the place, there is nothing worth coming back for. Save your money. This place is pricey and it is JUST NOT worth it.

Disappointed. They need to change their wait staff. For a semi fancy restaurant, I find the wait staff are not professional enough. Our waitress was too loud and too in our face. I would expect that kind of service from a pub, but not from a semi nice restaurant.Had a drink downstairs and then went upstairs. Note, food is the same but about $4 more expensive per plate upstairs. It’s beautiful upstairs, but again quality of wait staff is so-so. Had the lobster, and butter was warm with no garlic in it. Ask for some garlic, and they filled to brim so there was hardly any butter left. Wouldn’t recommend this place; and i wouldn’t go back.
