The grapefruit mignonette for the raw oysters was out of this world. A bit of a pricey place, but worth every penny if your a fan of quality when it comes to seafood. Thumbs up
I was recommended this place while on a recent business trip to Halifax…and this prairie girl loves her seafood so I camewith high hopes and an empty belly. On arrival, I was asked if I wanted to dine atThe Five Fishermen upstairs orthe restaurant downstairs.Since the menus were quite similar, I asked to take a look upstairs first. I chose The Five Fishermen for the ambience but was asked to wait while they checked to see where they could seat me. They finally seated me and I was introduced to my waiter named Mark. I chose the seafood platter after he noted it as one of their signature dishes. The scallops were plump and sweet and perfectly cooked. Same for the swordfish, salmon and shrimp. The lobster tail, however, was so tiny that I ate it in two bites. Then things took a turn for the worse.I don’t know if it’s because I was a solo diner but I soon found that Mark couldn’t wait to get me out of there. I was busy texting on my phone (actually in the process of thanking the person who’d recommended this restaurant and posting a photo of my meal on Facebook…I try not to do that too often but sometimes I can’t resist). So anyway,he suddenly showed upInterac machine in hand, askingif I was ready to pay. I asked him to come back in five minutes, wondering what the rush was. He came back more than once at which point I hadn’t even seen the bill yet.I then looked at the billand I almost fainted at the total, realizing he’d upsold me on a couple ofitems that weren’ton the menu without advising me of the extra cost. Had I known, I would have stuck with what was on the menu. So whatstarted as a nice dining experience, left me with a bad taste in my mouth. I felt duped by the upsells anddiscriminated by the waiter’s rush to get me out of there. I didn’t see any of the other couples and groups around me being rushed out like that.4 stars for the food, 0 stars for the service.
Ate at their Little Fish Oyster Bar. Lobster Mac n Cheese was out of this world. Smoked seafoood platter was delicious but overpriced. Best smoked salmon I have ever had though. Fresh Oysters perfect and served with delicious sauces (cucumber/gin!). Ceasar drink was pretty tasteless. Great service.
