This was a dining experience. I will eat here every time I’m in the city now. We were in town for work and this place had oysters so we gave it a go. We each had they oysters of the day and they were fabulous. So fresh. We were seated at the bar and our server was wonderful. Amazing recommendations for food. Muscles were outstanding. I wasn’t as happy with my lobster mac and cheese so our server went out of his way to make sure I was happy with my experience. Our server recommended the halibut which one of my friends had and we agreed we all should have listened to him. I had a great scotch to finish the evening as a lovely jazz singer and pianist played. We stayed for three hours and yes, that made it a pricey night but I have zero regrets. If you want to dine, not just eat, go to this beautiful, old spot. You won’t regret it.

Our first dinner in Halifax to start our NS road trip. The bar was set high for the rest of the trip! Great service, atmosphere & food. The salmon ‘two ways’ was amazing.

My favourite restaurant during my stay in Halifax. Fresh seafood with great seasoning and sauces made this a memorable spot. The lobster and scallops were amazing. Poached in butter, they were so rich. The plump and meaty lobster in the sauce was fantastic especially paired with the soft saffron gnocchi. However the tender scallops were the highlight of the dish for me. Great texture and balance of firm and soft to easily cut them apart, they were perfectly grilled and seasoned for an amazing flavour. The cod was also a fantastic meal. Great fresh fish that fell apart under the knife and fork and like the scallop was perfectly seared and flavoured with an amazing saffron rub. While the food was great the drinks were also quite impressive. The housemade cocktails were some great examples of mixology. Refreshing and complex, the presentation was quite impressive on the Cardinal with a stencil of the bird on the foam. If you like latte art, cocktail art is pretty impressive. It’s a dark and cozy atmosphere, but quite busy, so during the peak hours somewhat loud. As the night progresses though it gets quieter and more relaxed. Our server was actually pretty awesome. Friendly, knew a lot about the food and drinks and when we couldn’t make up our minds on two of the dishes he asked if we trusted him enough to surprise us. He didn’t let us down.Amazing experience in downtown Halifax well worth the price of entrees on the $30+ scale.

Great Atmosphere, Delicious Food. I went with my boyfriend and his parents while they were visiting Halifax. While it’s too expensive for us to go on our own, his parents offered to buy us dinner somewhere we couldn’t normally afford. I was very sick at the time and the waiter of course picked up on this and made me ginger and lemon tea to help me feel better. He was very attentive and great at his job. There was a live band who were very talented, and who played just loudly enough that people could enjoy the music, but still have conversations without difficulty. This may be my favourite restaurant in all of Halifax!

The Press Gang is located in a beautiful historic building, it has a wonderful atmosphere which is great for impressing visiting business clients. It is loud and tables are close to each other, so not very private, or romantic. The menu is impressive looking and the wine list is extensive. The service was a little lacking, I don’t like to much attention, but it’s easy to tell when you’re being ignored. I had Crab Cakes as an appetizer and the Braised Short Rib with Red curry sauce, potato Thai Basil pure, apple slaw and steamed bok choy as an entree. Everything was nicely presented and looked good, but it didn’t taste great. Just OK. I was hoping for so much more. I think I would go back for a drink and to try the tapas, but not a full meal.

No Brainer – The Best. I cannot express how delighted i was dining there tonight. I cook as a hobby and are many times I am disappointed in food quality eaten out. These folks do an outstanding job in quality and service. Preparations and menus are well tailored to taste and are orginal. The poached lobster in butter is the best, moist and full of flavor. The lamb rack is highly recommended. Folks comment about being pricey, my comment is the price matches the quality. When back in Halifax again, I will visit as well as recommend to all!

This is the best restaurant in Halifax! My wife and I have ‘The Drill’ every time we get a chance to get back to Halifax.
