THIS is Mexican food. Caucasian service was off-putting at first, but the food is clearly Mexican-made. And PERFECT. Intense heat where there should be. This is the real deal. The menu is a little more complicated than it needs to be, but who cares! This place is THE SPOT.
No guacamole and no taquitos.
Fresh and yummy. This is the best Latin food you will find in Halifax. The taquitos were excellent and we enjoyed everything we tried — taquitos, enchiladas, chimichangas, tostadas, rice and refried beans. The place seems run down but I’ve been to some nice looking places in Halifax with bad food, and I would rather go to a restaurant with old furnishings and good food!
EN SERIO. I have to say that the food served here is NOT authentic! This is terrible food, horrible serve, and it makes it look like Mexicans eat garbage. I am from Mexico and was so excited when I thought that I would be able to get food from home that I didn;t have to make myself but lets just say that Old El Paso is about as Mexican as this place. I would like to say to the owner… Are you crazy! Just because you are from Mexico does not mean you can open a Mexican restaurant! And who puts avocados in Caldo de Pollo! Gross all around. Do waste your time or money because it is a greasy spoon, hole in the wall.
Gold Medal. We planned a trip into town today for the sole purpose of trying this restaurant. Folks it was worth the trip. The staff are warm and very friendly. All the choices on the menu looked good so we chose the closest thing to all; dinner for two. This included burrito, quesadilla, chimichanga, enchilada, rice and beans. We took the suggestion of mixing beef and chicken. There was plenty of food for the price and you can tell the ingredients are fresh and homemade. The food was great. As an unplanned bonus we all (patrons and staff) watch the Mexican Olympic soccer team win the gold medal. There were 2 Mexican gold medals today; one for the Olympic team and the other for the wonderful food we were served. A great place to eat and we would recommend you give it a try. Adis amigos.
Wonderful !. The Chicken Soup with lime is amazing! The flavor will change your whole idea of what a soup should be. The Agua Fresca is fruit blended to a light refreshing drink. The smell and taste is like being in Mexico. Chef Ana Jenkin’s Flan (desert) is a soft,creamy smooth custard with caramel sauce on top ( Dulce Leche).It is unbelievably delicious! This is Mexican food prepared with love by a Mexican Chef, and her family. This family restaurant supports a family-in-need in Mexico, and donates regularly to the IWK hospital for children. You must visit for a home-cooked meal from Mexico. You will never be the same again.Hola!
Why no hard tacos?. The 8th best restaurant in Halifax? Really? Mexico Lindo isn’t bad and my wife and I probably get take out from there once a month as they are close. The food is not overly flavorful and they go heavy on the cheese. My only real gripe is that the owner always refuses to do hardshell tacos when we order (why are they on the menu then)? and the huge amount of styrofoam packaging you get when you order take out.
