Robbie’s has been around for years! Still enjoy it, but its not the same..prices and portions have changed too much. Very slow service. Had the Veal marsala a day ago…. was not a real marsala sauce just brown gravy. Disappointing.
I called back in June 2017 to reserve a private space for a party of approximately 70 people for an 80th birthday on November 4th, 2017. 5 MONTHS for them to prepare!!I was asked to call 1 week before to confirm the final tally which went down to 60 confirmed guest. The day after confirming, the manager Nada, calls to ask if my party is willing to go down stairs in the banquet room at no extra charge considering they are out of available rooms and another party that wants a private space. Since we were a larger group, I was fine with this idea. There one request was for us to have a set menu of 3 choices with the option of all the appetizers, soup of the day and one salad choice for our guests. I had to make the menu cards myself as the restaurant was not going to make any and the waiters were simply gonna list off the choices. I had table runners to set on the tables and Tony (the other owner) asked me to bring them in on Friday so they can set up with them on, I brought them Thursday to be safe. When we got there to set up at 2:30pm no runners were on the tables that were all set up. We had to move everything to set it all up again. Thankfully the waitress Sarah was very kind and helpful, not her fault, she didn`t even know about the runners.Guest showed up at 5:00, orders weren`t taken until 6:30pm. We were supposed to have a private bar downstairs with our own bartender and they didn`t have a qualified bar tender or they had to go upstairs for all the alcoholic drinks that weren`t wine.During the service Nada passed by and I went to speak to her mentioning that service was a bit slow and she said they had a full house upstairs and that`s why it`s slow. My reply was that they had 5 months to prepare knowing 60 people were coming. I asked if it was ok for us to stay a bit passed 9pm (this was our forced upon clear out time) considering their delay. We still had cake to serve and it was nearing pm when guest finished their food. She refused, said we still had 1hr-1 1/2 hr to finish up. She didn`t say anything further. Some of our guests were not satisfied with the quality of the food, they expressed their dissatisfaction with the owner and the owner kept stating that he is the only one complaining when in fact I saw at least 4 people complain about it.At the end of the evening while I was cleaning up my decorations, the owner (Tony) asks to speak with me. He starts complaining to me about the negative feedback he received from a guest. I ask him why is he complaining to me, I am not in a position to control how that guest felt. He starts to kind of argue with me stating he`s the only one who complained, no one else and everyone is happy and their was no complaints. I correct him stating that at least 4 people complained about their food. I complained to his own wife (Nada) about the service being very slow. My sister who was with me at that time also said she complained about the quality of the food and he never once apologized, wouldn`t even look at her when she was speaking and was talking to the servers instead of listening to her. After our conversation he turned away and made faces behind our backs and started speaking with one of the staff in a different language, clearly about us as they kept pointing to us.I got home, relaxed and the restaurant calls me at 11:16 pm!!! Nada is on the phone saying that someone keeps calling the restaurant cussing and she believes it to be one of our guest. I ask her why is she calling me? State that if she`s having any issues with her customer, she should call he police and not me! She awkwardly laughs saying she just thought I should know, I told her theirs nothing I can do and she shouldn`t be calling me at 11:16 at night. The staff that was present did their very best! We had 2 fully trained staff members and 1 in training to serve us. They did what they could under the conditions they were provided.Never again!
Robbie’s has been in business almost as long as I can remember. After the Walkley Road location closed (sold by owner) the St Laurent location is the lone location remaining. There are no surprises here, just a decent meal for a fair price.
