I had been meaning to head to Dundas for a while to try out Detour and finally got the opportunity this past fall. My boyfriend and I went for breakfast on a Sunday morning. He had the Detour Hash and I had the avocado on toast with poached eggs. It was the BEST breakfast we have ever had. The flavours complimented each other so well, we both could not get enough of our meals. The atmosphere is so welcoming as well. Very cute! We will definitely be back!

Wanted to come here since last April during exam season and finally got the chance to! The interior was nice though I didn’t spend much time inside once I found out there was table service and immediately made a beeline for the patio (it was a really nice day). The waiter was nice and didn’t mind that we kept asking for more time to look over the menu. She was really responsive and was around any time it even looked like we might have needed something. As nice as the environment and service was though, the food was a bit of a disappointment, especially considering how much they charged. I got the eggs benedict with smoked salmon on a chive biscuit. The eggs we poached well but that’s pretty much the only good thing I’d have to say about my meal. The hollandaise sauce tasted too heavy and flat, and the tomato it was served with did nothing to break the richness, being roasted. The biscuit was too salty and its flavour overpowered every bite, covering up any hint of the smoked salmon which was kind of the whole point of the dish.Besides that though, the freshly squeezed grapefruit juice (I took a couple sips from my friend’s) was delicious and the size was decent. Espresso was good. All in all though, the environment was nice. Would be a nice place to sit down and have a coffee, though I couldn’t recommend what I got for food. Also, quick tip, there’s free parking on the street at the back just through the parking lot if that’s something you need 😉

First impressions upon walking in were good. Small homely feel. I ordered the Irish breakfast tea and the eggs Benedict with smoked salmon. The eggs Benedict are amazing. Can never go wrong with salmon and/or eggs. Bringing the family with me next time to try the rest of the breakfast items on the menu

I know where I going for lunch when I was planning My Day in the Hamliton/Dundas Area. I always want visit the actual Detour Coffee Roastery in Burlington but never got a chance. But coming here seems to be better as I can drink the coffee and eat their food too! The patio area is so calm and peaceful. And if you are not a coffee drinker, there are a lot of other options including Ontario wines and beers and even house made Sour Cherry Pop and even Nickel Brook’s Root Beer!We ended up ordering:Cappuccino ($3.33) and Iced Americano ($3)Reuben Sandwich ($11.95) The ultimate: Detour Smoked Meat + Bubbie’s Sauerkraut, Melted Swiss Cheese and House Made Russian DressingRueben sandwich was amazing good. The meat was smoked perfectly. I really like their concept of locally sourced and house made ingredients!Detour Cafe is a great spot for lunch or just enjoy all their espresso and other drinks they offers. Now how I wish I have something like this in my neighbourhood….

Yummy breakfast. Popped in with my daughter for breakfast and it was delicious! I had the Detour breakfast sandwich, it was so good…I could eat this everyday. Staff were pleasant and service was quick. Would absolutely go here again!

Inedible Friday night dinner at an extremely unfair price. We were so disappointed with Detour’s new Friday night dinner. As supporters from the beginning, we used to love the five course Friday night meals, as they were delicious, interesting, generous, gave you meal options, and had the option for tasty wine pairings. For $45 a person, there were no appetizer options – only two uninteresting options for the main course (which anyone could have made at home from a can), and one option for dessert (which we admit was amazing). The appetizer came for four of us – bread on a plate with no spreads or butter, a tiny plate of braised sesame seasoned lentils, a tiny plate of pickled beets, and a tiny plate of poorly seasoned cauliflower. It said it would be accompanied by accoutrements – it wasn’t. Our main meal (braised lamb on white beans) came out freezing cold and dry, as if it had been sitting for at least 30 minutes. The meal was SO salty that none of us could finish it. Considering that Quatrefoil down the road has a five course Friday night menu for $50, we were almost in tears leaving the restaurant, feeling totally taken advantage of. It was absolutely unfair to charge patrons $45 for a meal that came largely from a can, with no options, and no quality whatsoever. We were offended that the owners thought they could get away with charging that for such a meal. The meal should have been $30 dollars at MOST. I guarantee not one patron from that night will return – looking around and talking to some tables we knew, no one was happy. Detour used to be wonderful and we’re saddened by the downhill spin it has taken. They used to pay attention to detail and care about the craft – it has gone so far downhill that we will now never go back there for a meal.

Poor service. How can a coffee shop forget to bring coffee? Three times? Poor attention to detail. Used to be good but has really fallen off.
