2018/02/17This evening was more about friends and conversation than it was about dinner. About 15 of us from high school got together at Aw Shucks in Aurora. We had reservations, and our table was ready as a few of us arrived at the appointed time. Our server was prepared to split the bill, and we each gave her a name to keep track of our orders. SWMBO and I started our meal by sharing the Romaine Salad. It was very much like a Caesar salad, except that their roasted garlic dressing wasnt as creamy as most Caesar dressings. A good salad that was definitely big enough for the two of us to share. For our main course, SWMBO had the Smoked Chicken Penne. The tender, cubed chicken had a distinct, smokey flavour. The penne was tossed in a vodka rose sauce, with crispy pancetta and sun dried tomatoes. SWMBO liked her dish. I opted for the Shellfish Linguini which was served with a white wine and tomato sauce. It took me a couple of minutes to get the clams and mussels out of the shells and take the tails of the shrimp; the scallops were ready to go. Then I took time to enjoy a pretty good seafood dish. While the evening was about conversation with friends, the service helped make the evening enjoyable.
More a sports bar than a classy restaurant. Fried oysters and grilled calamari were OK but the fish dishes were somewhat overcooked and unimaginatively laying on some plain wilted spinach with some microwaved veggies. Prices exceed Toronto’s but quality was below what was expected for that price.
Nah.. I am often dragged in by friends. Menu reads like it’s from 2002. The food is always over cooked, and stale tasting. On the whole, no one working there seems to have a clue. Can’t get a decent piece of fish. Can’t get a decent martini. Great looking space, though! If they updated menus, got some interesting cocktails and craft beers, and a proper chef… they’d be onto something!
