Never fails to disappoint. Painters Hall is the go-to resto in Barrie for myself and my friends. The service is attentive but casual, the food always well prepared and the atmosphere friendly with class. I had the special winterlicious menu of Beef short rib on barley risotto. It’s always a winner. I started with pork belly appetizer that was flavourful and very well prepared. It’s worth the drive to Barrie that’s for certain. Priced accordingly and if this was in Toronto it would be an amazing neighbourhood joint…. wish I could get there more often!
Not cooked. I was disappointed. Both times I have gone I have felt it was overpriced for what we got. Once my salad was a lentil salad and it was so undercooked it was hideous. The next time I went the waitress was very snooty and seemed to good to serve us. It was overpriced for sure.
Excellence. Just returned from lunch with friends at Painter’s Hall. What a wonderful experience – the food is excellent, the service friendly and efficient, the ambiance and dcor pleasant and unique. I defy anyone to find such good value for money anywhere. Their standards are impeccable on all fronts. Thanks guys you do yourselves proud – we will certainly return and give you the best possible advertising i.e. word of mouth to all our friends.
Always Good. Scott and I visit here often. Last time we had the Pickeral and Beef Shank. Absoluetly delicious and the staff were great as well.
Amazing!. Read some reviews, decided to try fine dining in Barrie.. our server was excellent; attentive and accommodating. Selections were creative and appealing, and we had some challenges choosing small plates to start…so we chose 2 ; the salad, and the Painters platter. Perfection..and not so small..we chose the black cod and braised beef for entrees and were not disappointed. The finale was chocolate flourless cake and creme brule. The portions were well balanced, unusual culinary flavour combinations complementing each other and a delight to the palate, presentation was professional and eye appealing, Very impressed. Totally worth the money. Definitely will return.
Disappointed. Unprofessional service and the steak was very tough.
Excellent dinner. I’m not one to leave reviews, but the great experience we had at this place warrants one. Being a surprisingly warm September evening, we decided to sit outside. Strangely, we were the only ones to do so. The server was very friendly and seemed to enjoy serving guests. She said she was proud to work at the restaurant, which we felt was a genuine comment. We were heading to a movie afterwards, and while not pressed for time, we didn’t want to be late. She gave us the courtesy of informing us that we should get our menu selections in early enough, as the kitchen can get busy. She ensured we were aware of the time, but didn’t pressure us into making decisions. I’m not a fan of the standard restaurants, like Kelsey’s (don’t mean to single them out) as they don’t really interesting food. I like eating at restaurants that provide unique flavours and dishes, something you wouldn’t be able to recreate at home. Painter’s definitely delivers on this front. As an appeterizer, we ordered the shared Painter’s platter, a delectable selection of unique sausage, bacon, cheeses and other goodies. What a treat. For the main, my mother selected the seafood fettucine dish, which she absolutely enjoyed. I had trouble selecting my main, as there were a few very tempting dishes. On recommendation of the waitress, I chose the braised short rib, and I wasn’t disappointed. We shared a half litre of Cabernet Saugivnon, which was good.We were both full after the main, but decided to indulge in some dessert. I’m glad we did, as the sticky toffee pudding was amazing. The only aspect we didn’t enjoy was the traffic passing by (there occassional motorbikes). Perhaps this is why others chose not to sit outside. But this wouldn’t deter us from eating outing again. All in all, a great experience, one which we would definitely repeat.
