It was Sunday evening,When I went this place at the first time.It was early evening and very quiet. The patty was clearly overcooked.I can not believe the kitchen staff served this overcooked patty.I asked exchange. The cashier was friendly is nice. The company needs more employee education. The reviews were good.I expected too much.Nothing special.just regular fast food.

On a cold winter night, I decided to try out UberEats. After checking out the suggested restaurants that delivered in less than 30 minutes, I settled on South St. Burger. I had never heard of them but it appears that its a franchise from Toronto that opened up a location in Ottawa in somewhat recent times. As I have often written in my reviews, I am a strong believer that the taste and texture of food is greatly reduced when eaten as takeout or delivery and so in some ways, reviewing a restaurant on a takeout meal might seem unjust but the reality is we all order food at some point. I try to adjust my reviews accordingly.I ordered a cheeseburger and a poutine. South St. indicates that they use hormone and antibiotic free beef for their burgers. The burger itself, aside from being cold by the time I received it, was decent. I always use Uniburger in Montreal as my basis of comparison. Compared to Uniburger, the burger was indeed just okay. Compared to other Ottawa burgers, it was decent enough. You can choose two different sizes for your beef patty. It did taste like a real burger as opposed to a generic one but I found the Maillard Reaction to be on the lower side of the scale. The bun to meat ratio was decent. The buns could be better. American squishy buns are far better. Price wise, its pretty average but I would like to see the prices go down by a 1$ here and a 1$ there. The poutine was a NY Fries poutine. Im not a fan of NY Fries but I do know a few people who are. It comes down to preference. I would prefer that they made their own, from scratch, poutine with freshly cut potatoes. Although NY Fries are supposed to be hand cut, it’s still jnot the same as from scratch made on the premises. Size-wise, I ordered a large poutine for about $6.50 (from memory) but to be honest, it felt more like a medium than a large. I would even dare say it felt more like small than a large,Overall, nothing mind-blowing fantastic but nothing mind-blowingly wrong either. I will probably try them again and experiment with their menu. In summary, I would like the prices to be a tad lower to match my usual go to options and I would like a more from scratch approach to the poutine and a more pronounced Maillard Reaction to the beef. Burger joints have become a dime a dozen in Ottawa so to be on my personal go to list, the burger needs to be more than good, it needs to stand out and go above and beyond. However, compared to standard fast food chains like A&W for example, I would chose South St.
