Vesuvio has been re-imaged! A total reno has brought the restaurant into a truly great place to dine. Bright, airy, and tastefully decorated. Delicious food, attentive service and a superb atmosphere! Will be back regularly to enjoy. A great remake for our downtown core A wonderful surprise!
This is for their new locations on Derry Road. They took over the building that Topiary’s was in and based on my experience of today we will not be coming back. Absolutely Avoid This PlaceSo, we went here because they took over Topiary’s which was a superb Steak and Seafood place. We wanted to check out what they did to the place and right off the bat we were underwhelmed. The Hunter Green and wallpapered walls which gave the place it’s charm (paired with the Mahogany you can’t get more perfect than that) has been painted over with an off white egg shell type paint. The carpets, which helped to deaden the sound bouncing everywhere have been replaced with vinyl tile made to resemble wood. The kind you find in basements. The once warm embrace was now gone.We ordered our standard bottle of sparkling water and picked two choices off the menu as we were stopping by not so much for a meal but for curiosity. Up first was the Insalata Caprese.INSALATA CAPRESENow, if you are going to charge almost $17 for basically cheese and tomatoes you had better make it perfect. Frankly the chef who put this thing together should be fired. I was going to share it with my son and the thing came out like a burger, all in one tower in the center of the plate. I asked for a sharp knife to cut it and was surprised that the texture of the tomato was akin to that of an apple. I dissected the tomato out to find that it was green. See photos. Green and tasteless.I make this salad myself. If I cannot get ripe tomatoes, I let them ripen in the kitchen. I can ALWAYS find fresh Basil.Instead of fresh Basil what dressed this salad was PESTO. Seriously?Like I said, $17? I want it perfect. This was an epic fail of a salad that is so simple to construct that both my kids know how to make it well.CANNELONIUp next was the Canneloni. This one was just about right on. The only comments I can make are these: 1) I am not entirely sure but I believe the pasta to have been rolled and cooked in the oven raw. You are supposed to boil it, pat it dry and then roll the Canneloni. 2) The meat filling was 80% there. It was good but there was something missing. Aside from the grind being too coarse tor Canneloni the flavour profile was not entirely there. I may have to get together with my mom and make them to get a finger on the missing piece. 3) The sauce, bang on. Great job. 4) The cheese, too too much. Now, this is not necessarily a bad thing. My daughter would go nuts on these. This dish was too reliant on the cheese. 5) 2 Canneloni for $20. You guys seriously need to rethink your pricing and realizing that the odd Italian is going to come in you might want to tweak the portions too.The service was fine as expected, no complaints there. Finally, this is the proverbial straw: Absolutely NO handicapped accessible washroom of any kind. Even if my son could enter the male washroom there is not a stall big enough for his chair to enter. The previous proprietor of the restaurant inhabiting this location was aware of this issue and was in the process of creating a handicap specific washroom. When I asked about this I was told it was now a store room. This really burns my butt. You have the money to spend of tearing up all the rugs, reflooring and repainting, but you do not think it important to create a handicapped accessible washroom. Are you aware that there are laws which basically say that you need to do this?A completely disappointing experience which will not be repeated to be sure. Manny, if you are reading this, where did you go? We need you.
