All I can say is this place is absolutely perfect for high tea. It is served by a darling lady ( Linda) who has attention to detail. You feel like your doting aunt has invited you into her precious sunroom served on her fine china. I had been here many times before and when I introduced it to m dining group al were high tea converts. The tea, the sandwiches and the desserts were lovely. After tea a walk through the gardens and the museum where it is housed added to a wonderful afternoon. I would recommend making reservations because teas are made to order.
Absolutely Divine!. We had come here on a Sunday afternoon at around 1:45 pm for an Afternoon Tea reservation of 2:00 pm. When we arrived, we had to walk through the front door of the Glenhyrst Art Gallery, which is situated in a quiet area with a multitude of grass and beautiful scenery. Once we approached the tea room, we were pleasantly surprised to see how quaint and beautifully decorated it was. There were a few areas in the tea room which had items for sale, such as tea cups, teaspoons, loose leaf tea, and other tea-related items. The tables were nicely decorated, with beautiful tea cups of varying designs, green napkins, and white dishes. All of the items that were placed on the table matched the dcor of the tearoom itself, with a large golden-coloured sash draping the centre of the room. It was actually quite breathtaking to see how much time and effort was placed into making this tea room look marvelous, truly something out of the Victorian era! Upon entering, we were greeted by Linda, whom had known of us coming based on the reservations that we had made. Linda brought us to a table with a smile, explaining each detail of the items that we would be receiving for the day. My mother had a gift certificate for one High Tea for me, while she had ordered the Low Tea (with a dairy restriction) for herself. Once we had settled in, Linda notified us of the menu with the tea flavours listed inside. We both took a look at the menu, then settled on our tea flavours; I settled on Berry Berry, and my mother settled on Decaf English Breakfast. Once we had chosen our flavours, Linda went to fill up a glass tea pot which had a strainer on the inside, with a handle that when pushed down, the tea was completely steeped. I had never seen anything like this before, and I found it unique, as well as easy to use!Once we were given our teas, Linda had brought over the devon cream and two types of jam; strawberry and peach. The devon cream and jams were placed in small glass dishes with skinny handles, which were beautiful to look at. We had poured ourselves some tea in our beautifully decorated cups, then enjoyed how delicious they tasted, with just the perfect amount of flavour. Also, the view from the tea room of the grass and the greenery was marvelous, definitely a perfect view to have tea to! After about five minutes of us having had sat down, Linda brought over a dish of fruit, which contained two slices of oranges, two nicely cut strawberries, and two toothpicks with grapes and blueberries on them. This dish came with a small fork for serving, and two small glass plates which were used to place our fruit on. We thoroughly enjoyed the fruit as it was fresh and savoury. After about ten minutes of us having had finished our fruit dish, the High and Low Tea arrived. My High Tea consisted of two scones (one with raisins and one without), three different types of sandwiches (salmon, cucumber with cream cheese, and egg salad), and various treats (lemon tart, chocolate, and various other types of cookies). My mother had the Low Tea, which consisted of three sandwiches with vegetables (as dairy was an issue), a scone, a lemon tart, and a sweet cookie. The items were served on three and two-tiered dishes, both of which were glamorous. The scones were warmed-up, tasting absolutely divine with the devon cream and jam (I particularly liked the strawberry jam the most). The egg salad sandwich was in the shape of a flower, which was beautiful to look at. The cucumber and cream cheese sandwiches were quite delicious, with cucumber slices placed on the top of the sandwiches, as well as on the inside of the sandwiches. All of the sandwiches were made with careful precision, making us want more! We found that the Low Tea was a bit small for our liking however, the High Tea was just right, with just the perfect amount of items on the dishes.Along with the High and Low Tea that we had received, we were also given a small vegetable dish, which consisted of cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, celery sticks, and carrot sticks. All of the vegetables were fresh and nicely assembled on the dish. We were happy with the addition of this dish as it was refreshing to have at the end of a meal.Once we were ready to go, we had asked Linda for the bill. Since we had a gift certificate for the High Tea, we only had to pay for the Low Tea, which came out to about $20. We found this price to be reasonable considering the great hospitality and food that we had received, along with the exquisite environment that we were lucky to be a part of.All in all, we found this tea room to be absolutely delightful. Linda was wonderful, always coming to our table and asking if we needed anything, filling up our tea pots frequently. We loved how charming and picturesque the environment was, with us feeling satisfied to be a part of it. I would highly recommend this tea room to any one whom is willing to have an authentic afternoon tea experience. Not only can you have a wonderful tea outing, you can also tour the art gallery while you are at it!
