Each of us had a Roti and a Redstripe. One goat one beef, both were good. Nice service, laid back, same price as the other places but bigger portions.…

Great food but who closes on the busiest day of the week, Sunday??? And the hours, so terrible 6:30pm?? So, you close at dinner time? Smart.05 Jan, 2015Awesome food!! I will definitely be going back.
Decent food. We went in Friday evening around 7:30, there was no other customers. We ordered Jamacian patty, curry goat, king fish. Food was tasty. Disappointed with selection of choices for alcohols. Also seems too quiet for Friday evening
Best roti in town. I’ve spent quite a bit of time travelling around the Eastern Caribbean over the last 15 years, and have been searching Ottawa to find a place that makes authentic roti. Discovered this little gem when as luck would have it, the food truck from across the street wasn’t parked there. Roti is one of my favourite island dishes – curried meat, mixed with chickpeas and potatoes, wrapped in a layered, chickpea filled dough. I’ve had the chicken and goat roti maybe 20 times total, and they are constantly delicious, and very filling for $10 (lunch special). They do a great buffet on Friday – if you haven’t tried Caribbean food, they have a good selection dishes (if I remember correctly, jerk chicken, curried chicken, rice & peas, okra, festival [fried dough], and a few other items). They also make an amazing hot sauce on-site (it’s seriously hot). If you’re around Richmond & Woodroffe stop in, try the roti. I’m glad I did. Cheers
Meh – not that great. Ordered some veggie roti to go cause I read on a blog somewhere that this was one of the best places to go for roti.. I would say its on the worse scale – but hey what do I know I’m vegetarian and white.Found the Roti Dry. The filling was dry too, filling could have used more spice and salt. I also asked them if you can order mild medium or hot they said they could asked them to make it hot for me. It wasn’t hot at all. Pretty boring… I would recommend a better place but I’ve only been to 2 caribbean places in ottawa so far not impressed. I would have thought Ottawa would have better caribbean food compared to Vancouver but i guess not?
Lovely food and reasonably priced. Mugena is an understated restaurant with big flavours. My daughter and I have visited a number of times and the food is consistently good. Mugena has found a way to make deliciously spicy foods with complex flavours without overpowering your palate. Our favourite is the jerk chicken, which is wonderfully spiced without being too hot. The portion is big and includes rice and a salad. We have also enjoyed the roti, which is a big portion and very filling. During one visits, the power went out in Ottawa West just as we had been seated at our table. I was sure that they would not be able to serve us, and was surprised when they reassured us that they have a gas oven and we could choose between two dishes. I chose the Ox Tail and would highly recommend it. The meat is incredibly tender and the sauce is beautifully seasoned. There was a real sense of fun in the restaurant as everyone ate in the dark. The service in the restaurant is always friendly and even a power-outage can’t dampen their enthusiasm!
I love the roti here!!!! Fresh and delicious. The service was super friendly positivity breeds positivity! Will be back weekly!!! Much luv
Fantastic, authentic and fresh!. I very happily dined on the oxtail stew which was served with rice and beans which they call ‘peas’ and very fresh homemade coleslaw and fried plantain. I was impressed with the freshness, the tender succulent meat, the wonderful seasonings and the perfectly sized portion. Not too full and no doggy bag! I drank the sorrel drink which is a sour herb with ginger and sugar. Refreshing. This place is so good and so reasonably priced that I will become a regular. It will get you hooked on Caribbean food for sure.
