This is my favorite restaurant in Ottawa! Pookie the owner is the sweetest woman and the ambience in the restaurant is fantastic! I always get hot and sour soup (Tum yum) extra spicy and pad Thai extra spicy! The apps are fantastic! Had my birthday here and rented out the restaurant! POOKIES FOREVER!!
Fantastic Thai!. Went to Pookie’s this evening with a party of six and everyone absolutely loved their food. The food was fresh, full of flavour, light and delicious, and service was on point! The portions sizes were perfect and we didn’t feel ‘heavy’ afterwards. We finished with lemongrass tea which was so good we even bought a packet of the homemade lemon grass tea they sell. I will definitely be recommending this place and will be back!
Excellent food, service and ambiance. I had the Pad Thai and it was one of the best I ever had. Service was impressive, prices reasonable. I will be back and so will my friends.
Pad Thai Curry and Roll. Delicious
Will never go to a different Thai place again!. Pookie’s is a bit out of the way for someone who lives in South Keys but I make the trek because none of the restaurants in my area do it justice. Clean restaurant, friendly staff, authentic dress, Pookie gives everything a personal touch. Although I wish it was a bit larger to accommodate larger parties of diners, it has an intimate feel that family run businesses often have. I hosted a birthday dinner there once and the restaurant prepared a surprise fruit platter that was both elaborate and healthy. It was a wonderful experience and I highly recommend the menu, especially for first time Thai diners or those who prefer lightly spiced food. Spicier food can be requested, however.
I’m going to give it another chance…. I went here and got Tom Yum soup and chicken skewers. Both were very, very bland. The prices are also too high for the portions they give you.I really like the atmosphere and vibe of the restaurant. The service was very friendly and fast. I may give it another try and get one of their main dishes.
Small quantities and too pricey!. The quantities are way too small for the prices they charge. For appetizer we had item # 3 Tod Man Pla (five fish cakes) they were small and rubbery, it tasted as if it was fried earlier and then microwaved when we ordered it. For the main courses we had We had the Red Curry Chicken menu item 31, it came in a bowl that was only half filled with the sauce and the meat combined. They were only about 7-8 slithers of chicken swimming in lots of gravy. That amount of meat would amount be what you would get from half a chicken breast or less which is terrible for $14.50. The other main course we had was the Beef item # 22 Pad Priaw Wan. This dish came in an oval platter and again same story really small portion for $12.50. The amount beef we got would be probably what could be had by slicing up 6 cubes of stewing beef . In short would not return.
