2017/07/29First thing I am going to write is that was the largest deli sandwich I have ever had. Now back to the beginning. We were west of the city this afternoon, and we passed through Oakville at dinner time. I had bookmarked Fiftie’s Diner a while ago, and today we had the opportunity to try it. It is in more of a commercial and industrial neighbourhood, and it was not very busy on a Saturday evening. The decor is definitely a throwback to the 50’s, and the music playing was 50’s and 60’s. SWMBO opted for the Fiftie’s Patty Melt with Fries ($11.95). Grilled rye with a burger patty, topped with sauted red onions and melted cheddar. She said although the patty was a bit dry, that the sandwich was still okay. I chose the Fiftie’s Reuben. This was the biggest, messiest smoked meat sandwich that I have ever had. There were probably about 10 oz of lean, very thin sliced smoked meat (the way I like it) piled about 3 inches high on grilled rye. There was absolutely no way to get a bite across the entire sandwich. About a quarter of the meat fell to the plate as I ate the sandwich. The sauerkraut was one one side of the meat, and it had a little sweetness. The Swiss cheese was a simple, thin slice added on the other side of the meat. I prefer when the cheese is melted on the meat, which was not the case here. The fires were pretty good, but I could not finish them, due to the size of the sandwich. Our server was pleasant and friendly. The food did seem to take longer to arrive than expected, especially since the restaurant was not busy.
Everyone who works here is a 16yr old girl. Took 15 minutes for one of them to take our orders, the clear glass my drink came in was actually opaque. Took 45 minutes to get food which was subpar at best. The top and bottom of my sons pancakes actually separated because whoevers in the back can’t read the steps on the box. The hash browns were sour for some reason as if someone got the vinegar and oil bottles mixed up. I’ll stay away from here for the rest of my life
Horrible food tonight. Smoked meat sandwich cold meat and untoasted bread. Caesar salad was made with store bought dressing, fake parmsean cheese and fake bacon bits. The pizza was some frozen crust and wasn’t even cooked thoroughly. Drinks were watered down. Not busy at all. Caveat emptor.
Blythe37. Loved the diner, had a fantastic burger, the fries were good and really crispy. The cheesecake dessert; however, was not to my taste. More of a sponge cake with gelatinous stuff on top.
Yum. Delicious homemade meals. Great owners. Never a complaint. Any bad reviews are bull.
Best Breakfast in Oakville. We always come back to The Fifty – for the best breakfast in town.Whether its just the 2 of us or groups we have always enjoyed the food and had good service.Ev’s fresh cut home fries are second to none and for lunch I love the Chicken Tenders salad.Thank you for great food and service!
Great breakfast – Terrible Lunch – Horrific Dinner
