Went to Tavolo with a number of fellas I worked with on a nice Friday evening in June. There were six of us that arrived at about 8 in the evening. We decided to order several bottles of Malbec wine.We read our menus and selected our choices. The kitchen was open and easy for patrons to view. It was clean and very busy.
We arrived to an almost empty restaurant on a Friday at noon on a PA day. That was a good indication of what people now think of Tavolo after the few years it has been open.Four or five tables became occupied as we sat. The male waiter brought menus. He then took the orders from other tables. People at a large table of eight just waved empty beer bottles and he rushed to fill their orders. We sat. He came over and apologized then left. He delivered food to one of the four tables that came in after us. He then replenished the empty beer bottle wavers drinks once again. Finally, he took our order. I asked if the draught beer was a full twenty ounce pint. He said yes so I ordered one. It arrived and was not full. I told him I was not satisfied with the amount. He asked if I thought I was being short changed and I answered that I was and that it was illegal to advertise a certain amount and not deliver it. The waiter just smiled! Doug needs to deal with this problem. He was not there that day. He operates other restaurants in Bronte and must know things are not working properly at Tavolo. So, very poor service at this restaurant in Hopedale Mall. That might be one of the reasons the whole place at its busiest on that Friday was only one sixth occupied. There were three of us for lunch and the only thing that was commented on as being tasty was a bowl of vegetable soup.Rumour has it that Tavolo was the reason that El Spero and Bronte Chinese Restaurant were turfed out of Hopedale Mall.
