Overpriced Tea Room.. We came here based on the reviews that were written. We had called ahead of time to make reservations for the Signature Tea at 1:00 pm on a Wednesday afternoon. When we arrived, there was only one parking spot left in the front of the tea room. In terms of parking, there wasn’t much availability, and what was available was not labelled well for guests of the tea room. When we walked in, we were shocked to see that it was quite tight in the tea room. The tables were very close together, which made it difficult to maintain a private conversation without the person next to you hearing what was being said. In terms of the dcor of the tea room, it was quite plain. The walls were white, with very few photos and some wallpaper here and there. Also, the tea pots and cups were plain white, none of them had any designs on them. I found this to be quite boring as I was hoping to find some tea pots or cups which had a design which followed that of the Victorian era. I found this tea room to be more ‘modern’ than most in terms of its dcor, which is probably why I found it to be boring. When I walk into a tea room, I hope to see cups, pots, and paintings filled with colourful scenery. I found this tea room lacked the ‘traditional’ dcor that many of the tea rooms that I have visited boast. This place had large napkin rings which had a pink stone in the middle, along with plain white napkins, and plain white tablecloths. I believe that tea rooms should be traditional as they represent a specific time-period which made the afternoon tea famous. When we sat down, we were greeted by a kind waitress who provided us with menus. We settled on the Signature Tea, to share, for the both of us. For tea, I decided on the Sweet Pumpkin Spice, while my mother settled on the Rooibos Superstar. After about ten minutes, our tea arrived, with each of us receiving a very large white tea pot, both of which were only half-full. In my opinion, it would be nicer if the tea were to arrive in smaller pots however, were filled closer to the top. When I poured my tea, I was always afraid that the lid would come off if I didn’t hold on to it tight enough. The tea strainer was very plain looking, nothing that popped out to me as unique. After waiting for about 20 minutes, the three-tier tray, containing the Signature Tea option, arrived at our table. We were shocked to see how small the items on the three dishes were. The first dish from the bottom contained three ‘very tiny’ open-faced sandwiches. In terms of open-faced, this means that only one slice of bread is used for the sandwich, while the other side (which is the top side) is ‘open’. These sandwiches were quite delicious however, they were bite-sized, definitely not big enough for even a child to eat. There were also two very small quiches which were the size of my pinky, much too small for an adult. The second dish from the bottom contained two very small scones, each the size of an infants fist. I have been to many tea rooms and this was the smallest scone that I had ever seen. It also wasn’t hot enough, and was quite crumbly when opened. The dish on the top contained a small dish of grapes, blueberries, and strawberries. There were also about five miniature desserts, each definitely store-bought. We were surprised at how small these items were, and to think, they charged us $28 for that! We were not-impressed with the price at all. How could they give us such small items, then charge us an absurd amount? I’ve been to more impressive tea rooms that give you twice as much for half of the price.Once we had finished, we decided that we wanted to have the ‘tea-leaf reader’ visit us to give each of us a reading. We had seen her walking around to other tables to do readings, and asked her if she would be able to do a reading for us. She came to our table after about 20 minutes, sat down, and took about ten minutes to do both of our readings. Those readings cost us $24 in total, definitely not-worth it! If we would have known how short and expensive the readings were, we would have said no from the beginning. In total, we ended up spending $61 for a meal that left us starving after 1 hour. This place seems as though they have great service, which is why they may be so well-reviewed. However, if one visits other tea-rooms, they will see that this tea-room overcharges for tea, food, and additional services (i.e. tea-leaf readings). I myself will not be coming back to this tea room for all of the mentioned reasons above.
Finding this gem was definitely serendipity for me! I have enjoyed visiting this lovely, quaint establishment on numerous occasions and I cannot say enough about how much I love it! I even had the opportunity to meet the wonderful owners who are dedicated to ensuring each guest has an outstanding experience. I believe that the previous review did not enjoy the tea they had ordered because they clearly did not understand how to use the strainer provided on each table setting. The strainer sits on top of a holder and is meant to be used with every cup of tea poured. Compared to any other tea house/room within the GTA – Serendipity takes the prize! I would recommend trying the Signature tea from their menu as well as their delicious soups. I am a chai tea lover so I prefer the Masala chai explosion and the sweet pumpkin spice tea. Make sure you get some extra scones for the ride home, because they are fluffy, moist and absolutely scrumptious!! As you can tell, I am in love with Serendipity and hope you all try it atleast once!
Classic Tea House. We went to Serendipity Tea House on wednesday for anafternoon tea, there were four of us and we each ordered aclassic tea and were delighted to see the three tier settingwith tea sandwiches, scones and sweets and our choice of tea.Just like when we were living in England. The tea room is cleanand formal with background classical music, quiet and relaxing.Everything is served in fine china, The service was great withattention to details and very gracious, we felt very welcome. The sandwiches and scones were irresistible. The best tea house we have ever visited. Will be back soon. We like it.20 Aug, 2013Went to this tea house for a tea leaf reading last Wednesday. Note-it was really busy so call ahead on a wednesday. It was my first time there and I ordered a soup and club sandwich. The soup was excellent as was the sandwich. The service was flawless. My wife and I are thrilled to finally see a tea room in Burlington. We moved from England 5 years ago and felt right at home in this place!
Best Afternoon Tea! I recen…. Best Afternoon Tea!I recently had the pleasure of visiting Serendipity Tea House with a group of my friends. The tea room itself is cozy and beautifully decorated. Attention to detail is certainly evident. We ordered a variety of items from the menu including the Classic Tea service. The sandwiches were all delish as were the homemade scones and sweets. In response to previous reviews, the dishes used are bone china, which is clearly evident if you simply lift the cups and read the bottom. Not sure how this place could get bad reviews. The service was great, food amazing (especially the scones!) and the tea selection was just right! Ive been to lots of tea houses and this is one of my favourites, and priced the best! We will be back!
Pretentious. What a disappointment! Since our regular tearoom closed a short while ago we have sought for a replacement venue. This will not be it.The ambience is quite nice other than the fact that we were the only two customers there. I am not sure that the management understand the expected offerings that their descriptions suggest. For example, ‘a selection from our Classic sandwiches’ was presented in the form of a sorry looking salmon sandwich on whole wheat bread complete with crust and cut in half – item price $6.95 (it was not sockeye either). The tea pots were very ordinary and bore no cozy. The teacups suggested cafeteria style crockery and not the quaint china one might expect. The ‘homemade scones’ were of a dubious consistency (sans sugar topping) that allowed them to completely crumble upon first bite.It is a shame because Burlington sorely needs a great tearoom to tend its expats and other visitors.TTFN Serendipity.
Store bought squares for that price?. I took my daughter to this new tea room. When we arrived the room looked lovely with fresh flowers and white linen on the tables. I noticed that there were pictures of tea cups on the wall but the table had stoneware ones instead, which was the start of our disappointment. The loose leaf tea came in pots but there was no way to strain out the leaves. ( We ordered the classic tea $$$. It came on a three tier plate which looked lovely. The bottom contained fancy sandwiches that were all beautifully made. Egg salad , tuna salad, and cucumber mint ones. The scones were more of a tea biscuit than a scone and there was not a current to be found. They did serve it with jam and cream which was nice. The sweets on the top was deal breaker for us. A place that specializes in tea should NEVER serve desserts that look suspiciously like the ones from M &Ms, or Costco ( not that i have anything against those places) I expect home made baked cookies/cakes when paying the price of high tea. We will not be back.
Great Afternoon Tea. This is a new tea room in Burlington and the food and service were excellent. Went on a Saturday afternoon and had the Classic Tea – the sandwiches were delicious, the scones were melt in your mouth and the sweets were to die for. Will definitely go back again
