2018/03/08After tossing a few ideas around, we decided on Canadian Thai, in a tiny strip mall in Thornhill. Its a smallish restaurant, with seating for maybe 30 people. One of the first things I noticed when we walked in was that the leatherette seat backs were showing a lot of age, with small patches of of the fabric falling off. Otherwise the restaurant looked neat and tidy. We were the only diners there when we arrived. They had a regular book menu, and they had a large laminated page showing Dinner Combo Specials. The 12 choices included steamed rice, spring roll, soup, and a beverage. He specials ranged from $14.95 to $17.95. Even with all in it seemed to be a bit high. Still, we decided to go with the specials. First up was the soup, which was a Thai Hot and Sour Soup. It was actually pretty good. Lots of mushrooms, good heat, but not too much. It was served really, really hot; maybe to hot. Before we were even halfway finished our soup, they brought out main dish. Too early, in my opinion. Our dinner sat for a few minutes, while we finished our soup that was too hot. My mouth was a little bit scalded from the soup. SWBMO chose the Szechuan Crispy Ginger Beef. Nice presentation on a large, almost square, white platter, with the little pyramid of steamed rice. The spring roll was nice and crispy on the outside, soft and savoury on the inside, but a bit too oily. The crispy beef had a little crunch on the outside, with a hint of ginger, but some of the beef was a bit chewy. I had the Traditional Pad Thai, which had a combination of chicken and shrimp. The shrimp had tails on, which is a pet peeve of mine, when the shrimp is mixed together with other ingredients. Service was very pleasant and polite.
Helen is a very kind and funny person the service was very fast and I got the pad thai it was amazing! I definitely recommend this place. The place is very cute too. I have been here many times.
It was Okay.. Not bad and not the greatest. Doesn’t taste like Thai food should. Good value for money though. We ordered the Lunch Specials… Pad Thai with shrimp($10.95+$2 for shrimp) and the Green Curry ($10.95). The Green curry tasted good. The Pad Thai came with only 3 medium prawns. Didn’t realise we had a option of soups. We were given the hot & sour soup, I think, not sure what it was(Hot & sour soup is not Thai, more like Szechuan soup). It was so so. Overheard our neighbouring table being asked what soup they wanted. The spring roll that came together tasted ok although a bit greasy. The lunch special was supposed to have tea/coffee as well but we forgot and asked for warm water we were asked what drinks we wanted but we were not offered coffee/tea at the end of the meal. After I went home, then I realised that the total bill just didn’t add up. I was charged a total of $28.76; I added a 15% tip of $4.31 for a total of $33.07. $12.95+$10.95+13% tax still doesn’t add up. Maybe she charged for the water but no coffee/tea
