BBQ items are a delight and at good market prices, probably due to the keen competition from the near door BBQ store. However, their menu showed their serve Peking duck but when asked they are busy. That a shame and a clear lie when you are in business. So, I eat more at the other store which provide free loading of condiments.
This is my first time buying a whole suckling pig for $160 CDN dollars from EXTRA B.B.Q HOUSE. It’s funny that my dad warned me prior about buying from the chinese bbq places soI’m hoping to help whoever is planning to buy a whole suckling pig for $160 CDN dollars cash thatyou get what you pay for. They asked for $20 CDN cash down payment for the whole suckling pig. I went to pick up the pig on the day and showed the cashier my $20 CDN cash payment. She tookmy other $140 cash and confirmed that I wanted the pig cut up. She said wait to the side for it. I found it strange that she said wait to the side for it. In hindsight, it was like she was telling me towatch the guy in the back chop up the pig. Also, I did not get another receipt saying that I paid for awhole suckling pig which is risky because then they can say that I only paid for half a pig. As instructed, I waited on the side and saw the guy in the back cut off the pig’s head and feet and chopped the pig in half to transfer to the take out box on the left side of the chopping board. He continued to chop up the left side of the pig and transferred the pieces to the takeout box. Please note that I could not see the takeout box until they presented it to me. Hecontinued to chop up the left side of the pig and walked over to the left side where I could not seehim transferring the pieces to the box. Then I saw him lift up and carry the right side of the piguncut from the chopping board to behind the area where I could not see him. I wondered to myselfwhy didn’t he chop up the right side of the pig on the chopping board. Then a few seconds later, the cashier presented me with the cut up pig box and a container of sauce in the 1×2.5 foot box. Since this is my first time buying a whole suckling pig, I gave them the benefit of the doubt anddid not really understand at the time why they would do this scam to nice customers like me. I realized when I got home that only half of the cut up pig was in the box. It was only a singlelayer of meat in the box that was only 1 foot wide. It was definitely not the whole suckling pig thatI purchased and everyone agreed at the dinner that I only got half a pig. This experience left a verybad taste in my mouth which led me to write this bad review for EXTRA B.B.Q HOUSE.Seven hints when buying a whole suckling pig from EXTRA B.B.Q. HOUSE.1. Do not put more than a 20 dollar deposit.2. Make sure you get a receipt for the 20 dollar deposit that states what you ordered (ie. whole suckling pig)3. Watch the guy in the back carefully when he is cutting up the meat.4. If you suspect something funny going on, call it out to the cashier immediately.5. Make sure you get the sauce to take home.6. Ask to weigh the pig before and after the pig is cut up (good luck with that).7. Don’t have them cut up the pig, cut the pig up yourself.
This is among my top 2 favourite places for Chinese roast pork in the city. The staff is always really nice, the pork usually isn’t too salty, and the texture of the crunchy skin is consistently good. We get lunch boxes from them sometimes and have ordered whole roasted pigs from them more than twice. Highly recommend this place. Their competitor in the First Markham Place food court has been there longer, but isn’t nearly as good, or consistent, or clean! Be sure to go to the right Chinese BBQ vendor. Extra BBQ House has a yellow sign. I’ve started trying some of their other products too. Their chicken isn’t bad, although their Hainanese sauce is not authentic. cookingwithalison.com
