10 Reviews on “Frankie Tomatto’s”
2017/05/18If I had to guess, it has probably been about 10 years since we have been to Frankie Tomatto’s. This evening three of us went there for dinner. The restaurant can probably seat about 200 people. It was less than half full, so getting a table was not a problem. It does not look like the decor has changed since we were last here. For me the food was okay. There is enough variety that just about anyone should be able to find a few things to eat. Various pasta dishes, pizzas, salads, antipasti, meat, seafood, desserts and more. SWMBO was not so lucky. A piece of uncooked bacon fat in her carbonara, a small bone in the chicken cacciatore, dry pizza, dirty fork, chipped ice cream dish, and maybe one or two other things. Based on this evening, it might be a while before we come back again.
I came here last night with my family and it was a stellar experience. Firstly, we did not make a reservation which I highly suggest because when we had arrived they told us the wait would be an hour and a half (unless of course there are reservation cancellations or some people leave early). We agreed only because we knew it would be worth the wait. Ps the parking lot was extremely full and it is evident that this place is not only busy but popular. Luckily our wait was only about 20-30 min tops and then we were brought to the section right by the host stand. To be honest it was rather cool since the door was constantly opening and closing so a jacket was needed to stay on. I gazed at the many other rooms and kind of wished we had sat elsewhere – deeper into the restaurant. But it’s ok. It wasn’t a terrible section – the other ones just looked cozier. All of the rooms are beautiful by the way and the decor is very authentically Italian and interesting to look at. This place is awesome and amazing just from the interior / exterior. It was very clean also. They have two bathrooms – the single one was great and the one with many stalls was ok too just the water was ice freezing cold. Anyways onto the food and service. We had a wonderful host named Dillon I believe. He was beyond incredible. He was warm, friendly, welcoming and made us feel at home. He was also super sharp and on point – always around when we needed him and constantly checking up on us to remove plates we don’t need and to just check in when appropriate – not once did we feel smothered or bothered. He was literally perfect. A waiter made in heaven LoL. Cute too. But anyways. The management was kind also – and other staff were as well. Very friendly, cheerful people. Also there was a man playing a life instrument walking around and his music was very entertaining, relaxing and nostalgic. He did a great job at making us feel like we are at a 5 star restaurant in Italy. He made his rounds and also we could hear people cheering on for the birthday girls and boys. They don’t provide anything special for birthday people except pictures, songs and a crown lol. Which is fine because there’s plenty of cake and dessert in the bakery section. The bakery section was on point! I had ice cream (all 3 flavours were amazing and I’m usually not a fan of soft serve). I had a waffle which was perfect, a nice marshmallow rice crispy, a dark chocolate pudding and a little chocolate cupcake. Can u tell I love chocolate ? Only thing I didn’t do was have the fruit. As a vegetarian I was 100% satisfied with the food and the labels were very clear on what’s vegetarian and what isn’t. Personally I did not quite like the flavour of any pasta except for the spaghetti (which I feel could have been cooked just a tad more so as to not be too soft) with the sauces. Both the cream sauce and the tomato sauce were very nice together. The garlic bread was awesome too! You can see the man cutting up the biggest loaf you can imagine – nice, fresh and toasty. It’s a different kind of garlic bread you will have to try it for yourself. And to my delight there was vegetable ministrone which was a good starter for me. Then there was the anti pesto and salad sections. Everything was super fresh but some of the items were running low. I particularly enjoyed the Cesar salad (I know it’s not vegetarian – sue me). But I didn’t try any of the other salads because I was happy with the Cesar. I also didn’t use any of the toppings they provided for it. Also I enjoyed the beet salad, the coleslaw, the potato salad as well from the antipasto section. Nothing else seemed to have stood out from there but I enjoyed many different vegetables from that section and kept it light. I avoided the fish section and any of the meats but I did try the veggie pizza as well as the cheese. Only taking a couple bites of each since I didn’t wanna get too stuffed. The pizzas were very nice. I enjoyed the hash brown looking potatoes. I kind of avoided the Parmesan section as it’s not my thing but I should have at least tried the eggplant Parmesan. They also had a wonderful mashed potato that I ate with the cranberry chutney which was a delightful combo. I also did not try the veggie lasagna now that I think about it. Overall I was extremely happy and perfectly full. I was happy that I enjoyed everything from appetizer to antipasto to dinner to dessert! I loved every single bit of my experience honestly. The waiter even brought me fresh lemon for my lemon water and not once did I feel judged for not getting another type of drink. My family also enjoyed their food and experience and we will be returning 10000% it’s just a matter of when. I would highly recommend this place as a life changing experience.
My first time. Not a FAN! My 8 yr old loved it, my husband said it was ok. Me, not so much! The food?! The service was good, the restaurant was nice, packed and the like, busy.
I grew up adoring Frankies.. we would always come here for birthdays and it’s almost a must to bring people visiting from Korea to try this Italian buffet out just for the experience. It kind of went down hill and I never came here for what seemed to be 10 years until recently when people told me they renovated and added protein stations. Some of their food has changed and I actually enjoy visiting here for lunch, I believe it’s like $13 for the lunch buffet which is pretty reasonable. I could order take out ;asagna with a side salad for the same price so I just opt for Frankies.
I used to love the buffet at Frankie Tomatto’s. Great options, tasty food, decent price… but after tonight’s dinner, they have completely changed. The food is bland, and either too creamy, too greasy, or not fresh. The only thing that tasted good was the cheese pizza. The dessert was the same, with only a few items, such as the ice cream and waffle being good. Definitely not a worthy buffet to return to again. Too bad, because they used to be good.
Really enjoyed the place. Very unique and exciting decor symbolizes Italy well as I’m Italian. Food was great and LOTS of selection for the price!! Good bang for your buck.
At Frankie Tomatto’s it’s about quantity, not necessarily quality. The variety is great, obviously for an all you can eat Italian buffet, but much of the pastas are a bit mushy and my calamari had grit. It won’t stop me from coming back, but not often, and with expectations set reasonably.
