2017/03/04We have been to Loui’s Kouzina for dinner once before and liked it, and it was time for another visit. We got there about 6 pm, and the restaurant was about half full. By the time we left, there were no empty tables. Today we happened to be seated beside the open kitchen, which was a continuous hub of noise and activity, with the head chef keeping control of the chaos between dining room and rajout orders. We started out by sharing one order of Spanakopita. Seasoned, cooked spinach, wrapped in concentric rings of philo pastry. A little crunch, a bit of softness, a lot of flavour. SWMBO ordered the small Greek Salad and added grilled filet of chicken breast. The chicken was sliced into thin strips, served on top of the salad; it was a bit dry. I had one of my Greek favourites: Moussaka. This was one of the better ones. The eggplant was cooked all the way through, the ground beef had flavour, and the bechamel was soft and pillowy, with a pleasant flavour of its own. Service was very good. Although we did have a primary server, they use the team approach, where everyone pitches in to make sure that the customers’ needs are met.

We came here, because it was close by and someone had said it was pretty good. Although the staff was quite friendly we were really disappointed with the food. The portion was much smaller than what we are used to from other establishments and they only give you a tiny little container of tzaziki sauce and if you ask for more it is extra on top of the above average price you are already paying for the meal. I would not recommend this place.
My colleagues are crazy about the food here; we order from Loui’s at least once a month. We love to order Saganaki and Grilled Kalamari to share, and then we usually get Souvlaki on Pita. All their meats are tender and juicy, with some fatty parts, which probably helps! Both the pita and the buns here are freshly baked and still warm when they arrive at our office. One of my colleagues swears that the buns taste BETTER after you re-bake them the next day! Greek food in Markham probably doesn’t get more authentic than Loui’s.
Last night we broke one of our cardinal rules. Never eat in a restaurant with no one else in it. We did arrive for an early dinner at 5. This was one of my wife’s favorites. This time she decided to try the lamb plate done medium. And the salad with the taziki on the side. Well the salad came with the taziki on it and the server reluctantly replaced it. The lamb came well done and excessively peppery. When the waitress asked if we were finished with 2/3 of the lamb still on the plate my wife said yes. And she did not want to take it home as it was too peppery and well done. When we arrived we asked for a couple of classes with lemon. They arrived with no lemon. When we asked again we were brought to minute slices on a small plate. My wife got up and went and got some real slices. Anyway, long story short, my wife said if no one says anything we will not be coming back. We were presented with a full bill and no apologies. We left and will not be going back
I’ve been here a few times now to order take out for lunch. I have tried the small pork and chicken souvlaki plates, both with the roasted potatoes. The food is absolutely delicious and fairly good value for money. The plate comes with a Greek salad and a buttered toasted hot dog bun. Maybe it was garlic bread? It’s hard to tell among the rest of the garlic in the meal. Either way, it was good. I plan on keeping coming here for the occasional lunch, as it’s nearby to my work.
I used to really like this place, I came here on my birthday and all of my guests really enjoyed the food. However, the next time that I went back I got the chicken kebabs. The meat on the inside was slightly pink but looked cooked all the way through (the same way chicken wings can look pink even when cooked). That was a a bad judgment on my part. I was very sick for the next 36 hours, as I was unable to keep any food down. This was around 2 years ago so it’s possible that the quality has improved, but I’m not taking the risk.
