We came here on a Monday night and half tge restaurant was filled. You order food through an ipad. Most of the employees seem to speak mandarin. We ordered food and it took a long time for food to come out. We noticed that most of he other tables also seem to be waiting for food. Some of the food took so long, and later orders came, so we assumed they were forgotten. We ordered a few items again, and surprisingly, everything came at the end including our dessert. We became very stuffed since we did not want to waste food. I would suggest following up on your order before trying to order again like we did.
I remember a while ago I ordered a sushi/sashimi platter from Syogun. It was quite good and fresh but I haven’t dined there until resently. It’s generally an AYCE fare and I think that’s probably why I haven’t been there until now!I have to be fair though, the variety there is decent and quite an abundance. Some honorable mentions include: grilled beef tongue, fresh shrimp sashimi and scallops. Not typically items you would find at AYCE places but found at Syogun. The food overall was definitely fair but nothing really took my palate by surprise and for that reason I felt slightly disappointed. What I did truly enjoyed surprisingly were the desserts. I loved the black sesame ice cream and fried milk bites. The ice cream was fresh and smooth, infused with sesame goodness. Within the same vein, the milk bites were warm and fragrant in the inside and crispy and light on the outside. It came pipping got to my table. They were absolutely delicious and I must admit became the highlight of my meal.Lets make this review short and sweet. So, what’s the verdict, you may ask?: Will I return to Syogun? For only the milk bites? Probably not. But I may come back to pick-up a sushi/sashimi platter again if I happen to be in the area!
The food here is pretty good for an ayce, but man they must use alot of sodium because everyone was super dehydrated afterwards. They have black sesame ice cream which is something you don’t find at most establishments. I would not go out of my way to eat here or make plans to return, but if someone was hosting an event here I wouldn’t refuse.
AYCE quality can always be kind of iffy, but Syogun was definitely one of the more impressive ones that I’ve been to. I thought the quality of the food was actually very good. On the weekends, they have AYCE sweet shrimp which is always a plus. The place itself is pretty cool as they have a giant sushi bar and private rooms where you can sit on the floor (you even are asked to take off your shoes). We ordered quite a bit and there was a lot of choices for weekend dinner ($24.99 pp). The sashimi selection was pretty large with unique items being sweet shrimp and beef tataki. The salmon, surf clam, and buterfish tasted fresh and came served onto a giant boat. The beef tataki was wonderful as it was a perfect rare and lying in a bed of onion, cilantro and lime. The sweet shrimp was good, but rather small. They were flying off the boat though so we had to keep ordering quite a bit throughout the night. They have a variety of hot foods as well, but I was impressed by the grilled scallops and wasabi mussels. The grilled scallops are cooked in shell with a bit of a creamy mayo sauce layered on top. The wasabi mussels were interesting as it was a creamy wasabi mayo that had the wasabi flavor without any of the hurt. The grilled eggplant and short ribs were very good. The ribs were thick and meaty with not much fat attached so I enjoyed those. Ox Tongue was good. I was expecting some thin slices, but they were huge chunks on a stick, which turned me off of it a bit.Service was iffy. Every time the servers came by to take our order, they just sighed and looked as though they hated life and didn’t want to be bothered by us. I hate that the ordering method is telling the server. They really need to bring a fill in paper form, because I don’t think the servers want to be writing down every shouting request that our larger party had. Definitely still worth coming to though. cheatdayeveryday.com
Do not go here: bad food, horrible service. Went here with some friends over the weekend. It was just the 3 of us. It is an AYCE place and there are MUCH better AYCE places out there. While the food is overall bad, it’s annoying when you order sashimi and it comes frozen rock solid. When it came to pay our bill we were charged a service/tip. I have seen that for parties over 6, etc., but it was just the THREE OF US. Then we wanted to pay by debit and they charged us an extra 5% for DEBIT. Don’t go here because the food is bad and REALLY don’t come here because the food is bad and the service is worse.
I’ve been to a number of AYCEs across the GTA and this place is by far the worst. The sashimi was sub-par (not fresh and really chewy) and maki rolls were mainly rice. Service was terrible, a waiter only came by once, and to make you feel better, they charge you a 12% service charge before tax. Save yourself the night and go somewhere else
Food was… Know better ayce places. The salmon rose rather looks like a salmon barrel! Sashimi cuts are not consistent.. ‘Best’ dish was grilled squid. Black sesame ice cream was good.. Wonder what brand it is :pCharges 5% on total bill if you don’t pay cash!
