Great apps and desserts; disappointing. Very overpriced for what it is. The appetizer–scallops–was pretty tasty, as were the soups (garlic parmesan). The vegetarian entree–eggplant, quinoa, mozzarella–was very strangely spiced: a mediterranean inspired dish with a sort of asiatic spicing that had an odd aftertaste. Quinoa texture didn’t really make sense in context of the rest of the dish either–too sandy and it didn’t cohere. ($23). The special–sea bass–tasted fine, but piece was very small (for $39! Ridiculous given the portion–sea bass is typically pricey, but size of piece was distinctly ungenerous); little bits of flabby skin were still stuck to parts of it in the corners, and it was served only with boiled potatoes and maybe 3 wilted bok choi leaves, two of which were yellowed.Desserts were amazing! I typically don’t order dessert, but stingy portions left us hungry. We had the meringue with berries and cream, and the meringue was tender and not chalky (as so many are) and the basque gateau, which was dense and served with some kind of warm sauce in a little separate pot. Sitting on the deck was nice. When I saw the bill, I was grateful we didn’t bother with wine, though. In the future, I might just have dessert and coffee there–maybe some apps and a beer. Entrees are to be avoided–they are simply not worth it. I don’t mind spending a little money on a nice night out, but I want some bang for my buck, so to speak. Perhaps Cork could put the pastry chef in charge!
We went Saturday night with a party of four for my birthday. We parked on the street and as we walked towards the restaurant we heard live music coming from corks patio. Was a nice bonus to enjoy dinner over live entertainment. As for the food, this place won’t disappoint I had the Brie and pear flat bread and spring rolls to start… So yummy.for the main I had the seafood pasta which had both shrimp an scallops an tasted just as good as the apps. We ordered cork coffees for dessert which I’d come back for just on its own. The managers found out it was mine and another person on the patios birthday and we were both served complimentary birthday brownies. Had a wonderful time and an even better birthday. Would defiantly recommend this little spot.
