2017/05/12We were on our way to St Jacobs, and we arrived in Elora at lunchtime. We had seen Shepherd’s Pub on our previous travels, so we decided to give it a try. Those with stair issues, beware: the front of the restaurant is just a front; the pub is downstairs. The dining room felt cozy, but was a bit dark. The back of the restaurant has a large window that overlooks the Grand River. SWMBO chose the Chicken Caesar Wrap with fries. Competent wrap, decent fries; no complaints. I had the Mushroom Swiss Burger with the house salad. Good, hefty burger, with earthy, sauteed mushrooms, and smooth, melted cheese. Each bite was a good one. Service was pleasant and friendly.
We enjoyed a view of the river from two of the five window seats in the pub at lunchtime today. The burgers and fries that we ordered were good, but took 25 minutes to get to us, and the experience was somewhat diminished by the flies swarming us while we ate. Our server was pleasant, but we did have to approach the bar ourselves to get the bill.
Always a good place to eat. Solid pub fare and good service. One of my top recommendation in town! Good value for money as well. The fish and chips are good and you can’t go wrong with a burger here.
Loved it!! Great good, good beer. The service was pretty good. The portions were good. Love the atmosphere. Good value for sure. I didn’t know what to expect because of the touristy town but I would definitely go back!
Great Food & English Pub Atmosphere. Four of us ate a great meal at the cosy Shepherds Pub. An intriguing and steep set of stairs led us down to the eatery where we enjoyed a classic French onion soup, beer battered fish and chips, Guinness meat pie and pasta. The hot apple cider was a treat. Strongbows was available including a good range of local and British beers. The food was tasty, well cooked and very fresh. The cod fillets were succulent. Food 8/10, service 6/10, decor 5/10, price = good value..
