Fantastic!. Tried Afghani Kabob Express yesterday. Food was uniquely spiced and absolutely delicious. We had the beef/chicken shami combo, as well as the dumplings. The rice was well flavoured too. I will most definitely go back!

Starting to slip. I’ve always enjoyed Afghani Kabob Express; however, during my most recent visit I witnessed the staff cutting corners by reducing portions. This contrasts with previous experiences at the restaurant with generous servings that made for great value and quality. I hope this does not continue as it is a very nice establishment serving good-quality food.

The only place in all of Montreal and ottawa this place is just outstanding. I have travelled all the way From Montreal to ottawa 50% for this restaurant. I went there in the late morning and loved it so much so that I waited till 9:30 pm at night to go eat before heading back to Montreal. I know my food if it tastes good and looks good I won’t stop going not even the price matters at that point. Enjoy!!!

Too original for its own good. This isn’t any ordinary Arab restaurant I thought I would get like a Shawarma place, it’s much better. The staff were a lot friendlier than the typical ones, the cashier described to me some of the foods I wanted to get and she didn’t seem pushy or impatience, even with a sudden line up behind me. I ordered a mantoo (seasoned beef dumpling) and a Chicken Shami, wanted to try a Doogh (yoghurt drink), but they were all out of it – so sad, I heard great things about that drink! Anyway the food was prepared in front of me, rather quickly than the average and in a different too. I would assume the Chicken Shami would be like a typical Chicken Shawarma, but they didn’t have a spit at all. I think the meat is all pre made, they simply grilled it, wrapped it in the typical pita with lettuce and tomato and then warmed it up by rolling in on the grill. I have never tried a mantoo before eating here, but from knowing how to cook chinese dumplings, I suspect that these were not freshly made. But despite all of these, the Chicken Shami was very delicious and surprisingly unique flavour, the mantoos sauce was a nice flavour that didn’t overwhelmed the dumpling but enhance it. If you have enough money to spare (it’s fairly expensive than a shawarma place) then you should try this one. But you should go for the combos than the authentic one I ordered, like a Lamb skank (seasoned lamb, with different kind of rice and a plain salad with fresh nann) or the regular beef or chicken.

Better than expected!. This place replaced a Shawarma shop and is a welcome addition to street dotted with one too many of them. I finally had a chance to try it out recently after walking by many times. I expected something similar to other Middle Eastern fare, but I pleasantly discovered I was wrong.First off, the quality of the food and cuts of meat are by far superior. We ordered the Lamb kabob and Chicken kabob plates with an order of the potato and green onion Boolani. The food was prepared in front us as we waited. The plates came with a fragrant spicy rice and simple salad. I really liked the rice. Im not sure what the spice was that they used, but it really made more than just a plain side. The salad was fresh and had nice garlic dressing, which tasted homemade. Both meats were tender and succulent with the right amount of heat. I found the Afghan naan a little dry, but maybe thats how it supposed to be. There was a side of something that reminded me of fresh made salsa. We debated whether it was for dipping the meat or the naan. We agreed to disagree, but one thing we could agree on was that it a nice sauce. The Boolani was something that neither of us had tried, but we were glad we did. It reminded me of a quesadilla, but better. It was served warm and slightly toasted with a creamy dipping sauce. Portions are generous as we took home leftovers. I found the naan tasted better when I had it later with dinner. The price plates are comparable to your regular Shawarma platter or Souvlaki. The place was quiet when we were there and it was enjoyable being able to converse. No blaring TVs or sound systems. The place was very clean which is bonus if youve ever eaten in some places on downtown Bank St. It is decorated with touches of Afghani art and pictures. It wont win awards for the colour scheme, but that is also not unusual for downtown Bank St. Its a great place for a casual meal or takeout. Service was friendly and attentive. You order at the cash and they bring the food, cutlery and drinks right to your table. They have their own version of a Shawarma which is called a Shami which I think Ill try on my next visit. Two platters, the Boolani, and two soft drinks came to about $43 with a small tip.
