I’ve been going there forever and it’s always going to be one of my favorite restaurants. I have never tried something I didn’t like. I always have Hibachi shrimp with a side of Calamari teriyaki. The only less pleasant thing is the manager lady who can be pretty abrupt at times.
I’ve been here quite a few times for lunch with friends. The service is always very fast. Although the meal is a tad pricey, I always leave completely stuffed. I love the chicken teriyaki as well as the beef with shrimp (surf & turf). Each meal comes with a salad, rice, meat and veggies. You are seated around a grill and watch your chef make your meal right in front of you. Once your food is grilled up,the chefputs heaping portions of steamy goodness right on your plate. justatraceblog.com
For an entertaining night out on the town. Japanese Village restaurant on Laurier st in Ottawa has been one of my fav restaurants for over 35 yrs; and i still enjoy dining here every time. Always good; have never been disappointed and the quality of the meat and seafood has been consistently superior .I’ve brought many of my friends and they’ve all loved it.The staff is friendly and courteous. You cannot go wrong.Need i say more !!! zuluQ
Once Very Good – Not Now. After been away from Ottawa for a number of years, myself and a friend went back to this Japanese Village at my recommendation for I thought a good meal. The Japanese Village is nowhere near the restaurant it once was, while actually it is exactly the same restaurant. Same decor, that appears to not have been cleaned in years. You can feel the oil and grease covered on the fixtures and equipment, Same menus – in fact they are the original menus held together by scotch tape, Previous experiences were positive. This time the appetizers and main courses were alright, the starter soup was tasteless, green tea and green tea ice cream were horrible. I expressed this to the staff and then the manager initially in a polite manner and requested the cost be removed from the bill, this lead to a heated disagreement. Obviously this manager did not care about customer service nor return patronage. Meal and drinks over priced, Cooks and servers pleasant and polite, though the cooks no longer have their once entertaining fair while cooking the meals. Manager I classify as a Numpty, I will never recommend nor return the Japanese Village Ottawa again. My Rating: 20 out of 100. Best of luck if you decide to go.
Dinner and a Show!. Delicious Japanese food cooked right in front of you. Great for bigger groups or even couples. If you get a table with some cool people at it, you can make some new friends! Great date spot, definitely worth checking out especially if you want to wow your guests!
NOT RECOMMENDED – Dirty, overpriced, tasteless and worst service ever!. My friends and I heard about this place with good reputation. We decided to give it a try. Turned out it was quite disappointing. As soon as we walked in we found the place extremely dirty and smelly. Seems like they never cleaned up over decades. The grease built up everywhere on the walls and their outdated decors. Although the place was not busy it took them forever to sit us down and take our orders. We ordered a sushi starter. Its appearance and taste were absolutely horrible. All fishes were fallen apart and they didn’t seem fresh at all. The color on the red tuna seemed fake. Also they didn’t even have Salmon! I can’t believe that they charged us $8.50 for it and it was much worse than other all you can eat sushi places. Another rip off thing was the $3 pop with no refill!! Their teppanyaki was tasteless, except it was extremely salty. The cook was bored and unskillful. As soon as they finished cooking they cleaned up their dirty grill right in front of us while we were still eating. It killed our appetite. We felt like they were rushing us to leave even before we finish our food. I felt stupid to go there and I absolutely won’t be back ever again! Japanese Village SUCKS!
This place is depressing. The decor is appalling, dark and windowless. The food is passable at best (meat, rice, onions and bean sprouts etc). My main complaint is that after you’ve sat there watching them prepare the raw food in front if you (which in itself is unappealing, to me), soon after you’re done eating they come with a container of water and a paint scraper and clean the filthy plancher flat-top grill while you are forced to watch. It’s a disgusting sight, smells rank, and leaves a film of steamed grease all of your face and glasses. Last time I was forced to back away from the table to keep from gagging. I will never go again as they have done this every time I have gone. Not recommended.
