The cool and cozy neighbourhood vibe is complemented by friendly staff and a comfortably modern aesthetic. Food was outstanding – delicate burrata to start left us wanting much more, and the two pasta mains were done to perfection. We were not impressed with the slow service (full disclosure: we sat at the bar not a table but still) and it seemed as though our drinks were a little light on the pricier alcoholic ingredients. Overall though the food stood out enough to warrant a return visit and hope the service that evening was an anomaly. On the upside though, we did watch as a woman spilled wine in the bartender’s eye, so… Dinner and a show!
We went to ascari sat night and early and the place was busy the music is way ti hi we cant not ear each other but the food was good service but the wine list does not par to the food menu over all was good
We came tonight to ascari since we moved in the neighbourhood the service was very good and the food but main dishes are small we both had pasta portion are small but over all the place nice but music is turn it down thx
Great place! One of the best Italian in Toronto. Great service too. Those that don’t like it don’t go out to good restaurants. I routinely eat in NYC and London and this place can compete. You won’t go wrong if you spend a night here.
Belongs On Top 10 List Of Worst Restaurants. Been following these guys for quiet sometime. Absolutely nothing new or dazzling about Anoteca Ascari 26 (try saying that 20 times or tweeting the name and running out of space). First the food: Good job with the apps, we ordered the Arugula and Antipesto platter, a bit pricey for cold-cuts and rabbit food, but nice presentation. Reminds me alot of Splendido or the Royal York. Dishes to avoid: Tagliatelle and the lamb . After the paint-stripping potency of their sauces you won’t be able to taste the rest of your meal. It took 45 minutes to attract the attention of a server. My companion’s chicken was harshly dry while my lamb was stringy and flavourless. I had to order some olives hoping to moisten the meal. To be fair, many of their restaurants I’ve taken a liking to over the years, but clearly this isn’t the worst in Toronto. Rather, the most disappointing. Decorwise: My companion described Ascari as looking like the inside of Liberace’s coffin, but it was more like being in Donatella Versace’s underwear drawer. Ascari is owned by a rich-kid who has parentals with very deep pockets, who is clearly making a bid to become the Jeff Stober of his generation. If there’s something that Ascari does really well to leave an impression, it’s being ripped off.
Yes please, can i have another?. Went there with 3 close friends and we all loved it. We made sure to choose different appies and mains so that we could sample as many dishes as possible. Everything was good with a couple of standouts. The quail was really good. The stracci and the pasta with porcini cream(forgetthe name) were also outstanding. Im a sucker for eggplant so the eggplant appy was one of my personal faves. The waitera were pros and they seemed well trained on their wine list, which by the way is a very good cross section of choice. I live very close to Ascari so i forsee many more visits.
Perfectly cooked appetizers bursting with flavour. Nice pasta combinations. Interesting wine list. And good coffee to round out the meal. The place was packed on a Thursday night and it’s clear why.
