I had the Cha Ca la Vong ($13) today at Hanoi 3 Seasons. What a delightful dish. Described as Hanoi-style Grouper with dill and shrimp paste. I had it served over vermicelli but you can have it as a noodle soup also. I can’t wait to go back!
Tasteless food, nice decor. The place was very busy on the recent Friday night we went. It had been highly recommended by a friend, but we were all hugely disappointed. We ordered fresh thai rolls, spring rolls, fish and vermicilli, chicken in coconut sauce and a beef garlic with bok choy. Sounds tasty, but all of the food was lacking in flavour; the best thing were the actual pieces of fish, but the accompanying sauce other than the bottled ones had no flavour at all, just and insipid watery vinegariness. The bok choy consisted of the tough stems with not a leaf in sight, the coconut/lemongrass sauce was tasteless and there were small amounts of chopped up chicken and beef in their respective sauces. Even the tea had no taste, it was like drinking boiled water! The best thing was dessert $12 for a fried banana with ice cream. At least it ended on a tasty, expensive note! Won’t be back.
I guess this place is fine if you’re just hungry but their food is pretty tasteless and expensive when you could go to gerrard east of broadview and get MUCH tastier everything for way less. So basically you’re paying extra for decor. And if you’re expecting anything other than straight meat (which white people love), you’re SOL, no tripe, or beef shank or anything. Been here a few times when suggested by white people; I guess I should stop letting white people take me to Asian restaurants. I should’ve known better.
I love Vietnamese cuisine. It is fresh inspired by French techniques and light and tasty. This is my second time at the Hanoi 3 seasons. I was initially swayed to come here by the high rating. Did it live up to the votes. Well to be honest yes and no. We ate some fresh shrimp rolls, chicken with lemongrass in coconut milk and a dill spicy shrimp pho. Cutting to the chase the chicken lemongrass was very oily. I could not taste the lemongrass nor coconut milk. The soup was nice. The dill herbing of the broth was different but I wished for more depth in the broth itself. More complexity. Overall I would say the food here is good but not great. Great lunch time retreat for locals but not a destination restaurant for me at night when I crave Vietnamese.
Yummy vietnamese. I cant help always wanting my favs the buddhists treat and the special shrimp and lemongrass pho are delicious. I am curious now to try som eof the other ones Ive read on here. I have always had great service here and the decor is nice and cozy and the patio is nice too. Great little place to eat, my only complaint would be the menu is pretty small and the spring rolls could be better.
Really unique and tasty dishes!. I have eaten at a lot of different vietnamese restaurants and this one has a very unique menu. If you want to try other stuff that most Vietnamese restaurants don’t offer, then you must try this restaurant! They have a specialty fish dish that you can’t get at most Vietnamese places so make sure to try the grilled fish on vermicelli. Also their clams with crackers appetizer is good too. My favourite dish is the garlic shrimp on vermicelli. I have never gone to their other location, but I have heard that it has better decor but a bit more pricier. The decor is a bit dark in lighting but the food makes up for it.
I just want to correct the mistake on my previous post. The name of the pho is PHO DO BIEN.09 Apr, 2012Amazing flavorful pho! I had pho dac bien, mixed of mussels, shrimp and calamari. Also, fresh shrimp rolls and deep fried spring rolls are delicious! And oh, the avocado smoothie!
