Few days ago visited Lahori Tikka House located on Gerrard Street in Toronto. It is famous for its chole for vegetarians and butter chicken for non vegetarians…It has Indian decor and antique vehicles as props, besides that they have unique system of placing order through a small slate board and marker …About the food – I found the place to be over hyped and I have definitely had more better versions of chole and sizzlers…They do many unique things like serve curd in ketchup bottles chilli on sticks etc. ..Lahori kulfi is a must have on your visit and we also tried the Lassi and masala Lassi/buttermilk ( which hardly had any masala or salt) ..I am unsure if its the same always or its one of those days when things dint go well. ..Btw, its always jam packed so you must reach before peak hours.
2019/03/16We had heard about Lahore Tikka House several times over the years, and today we decided to have dinner there. When he arrived shortly after 6 pm, there was a bit of a lineup, and we were told it might be 30 minutes for a table. We chose to wait, and it was less than 10 minutes before we were seated. It is a fairly large restaurant on two floors, with seating for maybe 100 on the first floor. We didnt go upstairs, but I can only assume it would hold more there, since the kitchen was on the first floor. Ordering is a bit different than other restaurants. You are given a whiteboard and marker, along with menus. You write down your order and take it up to the counter, where they give you a number to place on your table. When you are done your meal, you take the number back to the counter and pay. We ordered Butter Chicken ($16.99), Hara Chicken ($13.99), Garlic Naan (2 at $2.99 each), and SWBMO wanted to try their Chai ($2.50). We looked for plain rice on the menu, but did not see it. After we placed our order, we saw that other tables had plain rice, so I went back to the counter and added that to the order. When I looked at the bill later when paying I was a bit surprised that the rice was $5.99. The Butter Chicken was pretty good, but a bit spicier than we are used to. There were 5 chunks of white chicken, smothered in a rich butter and tomato sauce. Although it was a tasty dish, it was pricey for way you got. The Hara Chicken was rubbed with cilantro and mint, giving it a distinctive green colour. This dish came with 8 pieces of boneless thigh meat. For us this was a new and different dish, much less spicy than the first. Except for the three pieces with gristle, we rather enjoyed the flavours. The Garlic Naan was fresh and loaded with garlic. It was a great vehicle to sop up the sauces. SWBMO wasnt too keen on the Chai, but she is not a milk person, and this drink had a lot of milk. Service was fairly fast and friendly. Even with the brief wait at the start, we were in an out in just over an hour. Overall we felt it was a good meal, although pricier than expected, especially the Butter Chicken and Plain Rice.
Lahore tikka house is a feel good place. Colours make me happy, and this place is all things colourful. We ordered Mixed Kebabs and Sweet lassi and we loved it. Food – 5/5 Service – 5/5Ambience – 5/5Staff – 5/5 In short, its a must go restaurant. Go try out!
Lahore Tikka house is the place to go in Toronto when you are missing indian food especially for non veg lovers. even while writing the review I can feel my taste glands miss that great taste of the kebabs there. You pick a dish in the menu and you would love it.My personal favorites are daal beef, palak chicken, lamb kabab, beef kabab, lamb chops.I specially love the naans here so soft and tasty. For dessert you should try the kheer or gulabjamunsWhile having a meal at LTH teh falvours are so authentic that you forget you are in toronto. Must try for someone craving for Indian food.Food – 5Service 5Ambience – 5
The food is amazing. The butter chicken here tastes better than any butter chicken there is. They need to change the menu system and they should change from plastic cutlery to real one. The service is fine and very basic with some old idea. Overall if the system gets better, it can actually turn out to be the best indian/pakistani restaurant in Toronto.
