Big disappointment. This is the 1st time in 3 years in Canada that someone has sold me stale food.I went to mahar with lot of expectations as it is considered to be one of the oldest establishments in the area ESP looking for their sweets.I ordered the popular ras malai and barfi. I still can’t believe it , but all of them turned out to be stale. This won’t even work in India. I am thinking of complaining to the food inspectors
Had a private party at mahar. It was my son’s 1birthday party and i didn’t want to throw a party at the same old banquets on Gerrard Street. I came across Mahar and didn’t even know they had a banquet in their basement. I took a look at it, and i was very impressed. It was new, moderate, and trendy. I discussed with them my menu and they gave me amazing price that fit my budget. I recommand Mahar for their very helpful and friendly service and they’re food is mouth watering. Reminds me of back home in the village.Thanks Mahar
The Best Punjabi Food. Growing up in the 1980’s my parents and I use to dine at this restautrant. Instead of Mc Donald’s I always wanted to come here for their Nan Kabab’s- and Chana Bhatura’s. This restaurant now looks even better, it’s newly renovated, has a moderin indian twist to the decor, and they have a BUFFET…..I LOVE IT. All of my childhood favorites are still there, Nan, Chana, Butter Chicken, and they even have warm gulab jamans in the buffet. Trust me GUYS, this place is small but i would say it’s the real taste of punjabi food, and it’s a must to go to placeFYI the owner told me they make all their sweets in house, and it’s true, I saw when the door opened, they were rolling ladoo balls, lol……HOMEMADE SWEETS, nice and fresh
Meh-ar?. Excellent prices. Clean, modern decor, average service. The serving dishes came complete with a tea light to keep the food warm; a very nice touch. Appetizer (puri with onions, peanuts and rice crisps) was yummy. Chicken Tikka Masala was rich and flavorful. Matar paneer was meh. Have had much better elsewhere. We think that perhaps the peas came from a can, and so there was the added flavour of pea-juice. I think it may have taken away from the deliciousness that is usually this dish. I don’t recommend. …..though maybe it was just an off-day.Also ordered a veggie dish (veg balls in cream sauce). The sauce was very tasty, but the balls were debatable. A little salty. Maybe that does it for you, but ain’t for me. The naan was amazing – crispy, chewy, buttery and oh so good.The coke and gingerale were chilled nicely over ice, served in a pretty sundae glass.Not the best food, not the worst….
Deserts…. Picked up a box of indian sweets …it was ok …nothing noteworthy!
Good buffet. Butter chicken was a little rubbery, but otherwise food was good and tasty. Not expansive ($12.95) for what’s being offered. Friendly service. Would go back.
