When I heard there was an OLD Chinatown in Toronto, I freaked out and wanted to visit it immediately. Though it lacks the hustle and bustle of the one downtown, it’s got something extra special – THIS RESTAURANT! That was a lame intro I’m sorry… anyways, I was looking forward to some solid dim sum. I went during a pretty slow period (literally only my boyfriend and I) and we had great service, everything was lightning speed quick and the food was hot and fresh. We ordered a variety of things including cuttlefish curry, fried squid fingers, pork and chive fried dumplings, shrimp gao (sp?), beef dumplings and coconut pudding. I left the place so satisfied and delighted and would love to some day make the mission out East again to try more.

Makes the visit to Spadina, even on a wintry day, worthwhile. Heavy on gristle and oil. Not much positive to say; we waited without reward for a plate of kailan with oyster sauce and finally paid and left without it, and had to ask twice for a Coke. Serviceable dimsum only if utterly desperate and too tired to hop on a streetcar.

Best dim sum in the east end for sure. Can be busy on the weekends, so best to be there a bit early. Good prices. Fresh tasting food. Worth checking out to avoid the trek to Spadina.

This dim sum place was busy on Sunday around 11am. There were a lot of Caucasians and the old ladies pushing carts would name the foods in English. They still do cart style here so you wait till you hear what you want. It’s cheaper before 10:30am. However, tea is $1 per person. The dim sum was good. It does take a while for new items to be pushed out but there’s still a variety to choose from. If you don’t know Chinese, the old ladies will tell you what the main ingredients are in English (beef, pork, shrimp, etc). There’s also a lot of people working so there’s good service. Cleared dishes get taken away quickly and they check to see if you need a tea refill. It’s been a while since I’ve been to Chinatown for dim sum since there are so many choices in Scarborough, but I think I’ll come a bit more often now.

Great Dim Sum Spot. A nice hidden treasure for dim sum in Toronto. I’ve gone a few times and even on weekends, I’ve never had to deal with lines or waits to get in. The dim sum is good quality, portions are reasonable, so it all hits the spot.Pearl Court is a busy place, but there’s plenty of room and the carts of dim sum go by quickly. So if you prefer dim sum cart selection, this is a great place to watch what special dishes go by – even then if you want something specific, all you have to do is ask a server.

The dim sum is fantastic and cheap! Yum.

I’ve been here for an hour trying to get a simple take out order and nothing. Trying to get my money back now and being told 3 more minutes. Never again. Good Dim Sum on Sundays, though.
