Not very friendly. They say they open at 7am. We came in at 7:20 and the lady at the counter said they don’t have any breakfast when the guy sweeping the floor outside said there’s a breakfast menu inside. Even their dessert bars were not ready as they were frozen. If you’re going to be open at 7am, shouldn’t the food be ready by then? They weren’t too happy to see their first customers of the day…
So Good!. Just had the perk cater salads for my wedding. The food was the talk of the party, just down home delicious. The service is the talk of our new marriage. The presentation was incredible and very classy, everything was taken care of and done to perfection. The perk went above and beyond.
Espresso plain and simple. After a score of visits to the Perk, not to review, just to sit and have an espresso and a sandwich, I still haven’t gotten a drinkable espresso. You’d think I’ve learned my lesson, but no. I keep getting shite. C’est la vie. I’ve learned my lesson.Despite the espresso debacle and the continuing slow service, the place has it’s charms. The sandwiches continue to delight and the non-espresso based drinks are also quite fine. They’ve got a nice selection of quality teas and the pastries are also quite good. There’s a bit of snow falling today, just enough to cover the lawns, and sitting here gazing out the window is a most pleasant experience.23 Aug, 2011Not too shabby. I’ve found the rosewater and raspberry lemonades just great! I like the blueberry scones. I’ve never had a problem with the food, it’s always good and the service, while slow, is adequate for this sleepy little corner of Riverdale. While smokers hijack the patio 75% of the time, it’s quite pleasant when they leave – too bad they don’t have the manners to not crush out their cigarettes on the ground within the confines of the patio. But mostly a nice little cafe. The one major criticism I have is the espresso. I have never in all my trips here (too many to count) have I received a proper espresso. In-so-far as you won’t accept my well-ntentioned advice on how to do it, maybe, just maybe, you’ll call your espresso machine provider and allow them to service the machine and the grinder (which is grinding WAY too fine) and show you how to do it all properly. Still, despite the unseemly antics of the smokers and the incompetence at driving an espresso machine, I like this little place and I hope it continues to do well.
One of those hidden gems. Riverdale Perk has some great options for anyone, their food, desserts and coffee’s are superb and the atmosphere is wonderful. My favorite thing to eat there is their grown up grilled cheese with Brie, pear, and avocado!
After four months (sonce my last review) you’d think they have learned that a double espresso is actually two espressos and not just one with more water. Their sanwhiches are good, though as are their lovely desserts. The decor is pleasant as are the staff and the patio continues to be a local attraction. Keep the dogs OUT please. Great Place!. This place has a great atmosphere and really good food. They are always mixing up flavours and have some really interesting items. Their freshly baked scones and muffins are delicious and one of my favourite treats in the city.
One day I’d like to enjoy a coffee here. I really would, but I just don’t.
