Couldn’t wait to get out of bed so I could have the pleasure of eating a delicious real croissant from this bakery. Every product looked exquisite when you walked through the doors. Incredible food and coffee, beautiful decor, wonderful staff. And a great brunch spot on weekends… Highly recommend this place!
In my opinion this is the best bakery downtown! The service is excellent, the place is very clean and the environment is amazing!!!!! The beignet, hot chocolate, flatbread, brigadeiros are my favourite! Im always trying something new because the quality is really good!!!!!!
The beignets were delicious filled with custard. It was light and not too sweet! Will definitely return for some more! Enjoyed it along side with their coffee.
When BlogTO wrote about this bakery in Riverside about a month ago, I knew I needed to try it out as it has Brazilian specialty items that were hard to find in other parts of the city.I got there exactly as they opened at 9am. The interior looks like a standard Toronto cafe with limited but comfy seating, and glass displays showing the many treats available to the public. The service was friendly and even helped recommend some items to me so that I could get the full experience of the bakery.I had a croissant breakfast sandwich, a brown sugar iced cappuccino, and two of their brigadeiros. The breakfast sandwich was like a westernized version of a Banru and was heated up slightly to give an interesting taste of lukewarm and hot. The croissant was flaky and soft, the ham was cured well and the egg patties used were seasoned with oregano and pepper to give flavour without being too overwhelming. The brigadeiros were unlike anything I have ever experienced. Instead of being a crunchy ball like you would expect, they are almost gooey and melt in your mouth. Sugar loaf has two kinds: chocolate and strawberry cream. The strawberry cream tasted more like strawberries than any other dessert I had, which is an accomplishment in my book. I could have done without the pink sprinkles on the outside though. The chocolate was by far my favourite as it tasted like brownie batter in a condensed form. The brown sugar iced cappuccino was the item that surprised me the most. I usually don’t like coffee, but I decided to give this a shot. At first, it was really bitter. But after stirring it slightly, the bitter taste of coffee was gone. What was left was a drink that tasted like a mild Ice Capp from Tim Horton with a sneaky hint of authentic sugar, which makes me like it more. Overall, I enjoyed my experience at Sugar Loaf and I would come here again. Fully recommend.
Very pleased to have a decent bakery in the neighbourhood that has 1) no miserable servers who actively ignore you (I’m looking at you, Bonjour Brioche); 2) competently executed croissants and pain-au-chocolat; and 3) delicious vegan dessert options! After being burned a number of times by the poor options in the neighbourhood, I’m looking forward to tasting everything Sugar Loaf has to offer. So far, their double chocolate pain-au-chocolat, croissant, and custard-filled beignets were delights.
