Not Impressed. Not impressed with the the quality of the food. Such small portions, was not happy. Way too expensive and I could make better food at my own house.
Overly pretentious and underwhelming. Olivers is a restaurant I have frequented on countless occasions for over 20 years. For a while it was locked in the 70s with its dark wood and formal waiter stuffiness but the quality of the food made up for it. I was happy to see the more recent renovations which updated the restaurant to a more modern approach. The lighter menu option was also a welcome addition. But during the last four times (in the last 2 months) that I have eaten there with family and friends (on each occasion spending hundreds of dollars) we have been extremely disappointed. I have finally decided not to attend again and write this review to express the displeasure I would have expressed to the manager given the opportunity. I hate complaining in a restaurant and seldom ask for something to be taken back, which may account for why I did not speak up in a louder fashion when the manager gave lip service only to whether we were enjoying our meals. I am a foie gras junkie. Love it and dont mind paying the exorbitant price for it. I choose restaurants on the basis of who serves seared foie gras. The last two occasions I have ordered the appetiser here it was terribly disappointing. The first time it was actually burned black on the bottom (but turned over so I didnt see it but could certainly taste the problem right away). Last night it was, again, completely overcooked. I hate to sound like Woody Allan but not only was it hard and unappetising there was so little of it. I splurge on foie gras whenever I can and I have never seen such paltry tiny servings as at Olivers. Usually you get two very small pieces. Yesterday I was served one 2.5 inch by 1.5 piece of greatly overcooked liver. My husband actually took out a small post-it note and joked about this $35 appetizer. But not only was it almost non-existent it was grossly overcooked. You should expect better from a restaurant purporting to be of a finer dining establishment. I waited for the waiter to come so I could get another but he did not go to our table until long after everyone else had eaten their apps. By that time it was simply too late to get it redone. I told him of the problem though and why it was not eaten. I was, nevertheless charged for it.After getting my steak, the ordered accompanying vegetables did not arrive for another 7 minutes. When the waiter finally brought it I told him that I did not get the truffle butter on the steak I had ordered. He brought the hard coin of butter out on a separate plate but by that time the outside of the steak was too cold for it to melt and the other table members had almost finished their meals. I asked for my steak to be wrapped up so I could take it home. After dinner we wanted specialty coffees and dessert but waited so long to be asked for our dessert order (15 minutes after the menus were provided and table cleared) that we decided to just get our bill and leave. The manager who floats around asking customers how their meal is only wants to hear the positive. Last night he popped by our table and asked how everything was I responded Ok but… and he smiled broadly and started to walk away stating thats good and went to another table. I would have thought he didn’t hear me but that was exactly what happened on the prior occasion we dined there when I told him that my shrimp was not cooked. We left a 15% tip as opposed to the usual 20%. Dinner for 3 with no dessert still came to in excess of $600 with tip. But I will vote with my feet next time and find another restaurant for fine dining and my foie gras fix. No more chances for Olivers overly pretentious but underwhelming food. I want what a pay for.
We enjoyed one of the very best meals we have had anywhere last evening. The service, ambience and food could not have been better. Would recommend this restaurant without reservation!
Best restaurant in Oakville. The food and service are always impeccable. You won’t find anything to compare at this level in Oakville.
Not Impressed. Despite having a reservation and being dressed appropriately, my husband and I were treated very poorly, ignored and looked down upon. That was back in the ’80’s. Never been back since.
