A group of us visited Lion City yesterday for Dinner. This place is located 5 minutes away from Erindale GO Station, and therefore pretty easy to locate. As soon as we were seated, we were presented with steaming pots of Jasmine Tea – on the house. This was a really sweet gesture, and the tea was a great accompaniment to the dishes below. For the appetizer, we tried the Laksa Lemak ($9.00)- A hot soup with rice noodles, shrimp and beansprouts. This soup reminded me of a Tom Yum – and it was wonderfully fragrant and had subtle, yet clean flavour. For our mains, we ordered Nasi Goreng ($8.50)- An Indonesian Rice and the Mee Goreng ($8.50)which is an Indonesian Noodle Dish. Both dishes were really delicious, although not traditional to Indonesian flavours. They did their own take on it, and it was still delicious! And for the price, the quantity was enough for 4 people to share very easily!I would suggest getting their Sambal (Hot Sauce) on the side to add more heat.We also ordered their Signature Dish – Spicy Grilled Fish in Banana Leaf ($13.95). The fish was beautifully presented inside a banana leaf, and was wonderfully crispy! For dessert, we ordered the Ice Kachang ($5.00) which is shaved ice with syrup and Sago Gula Melaka ($4.50) – which consisted of tapioca pearls immersed in coconut milk. These desserts were the stand out dishes!!! So delicious, we were fighting for the last bite!Improvements:- The service here is very slow, there was only one server yesterday who had to be flagged multiple times so we could order food/pay the bill etc.- There was the owner/chef of the restaurant sitting at the table beside us chopping vegetables out in the open. This seemed a bit odd, but given that it’s a family restaurant, I guess this is what they consider normal.

Came here for my mother’s birthday with a party of 7. We ordered three Hainan chicken rice (as my mom remembered it to be greatly delicious in the past), a laksa, nasi lemak, six satay skewers (three beef, three chicken), a Thai curry, roti, and a char kway teow. The nasi lemak was quite good, with rice that was fragrant in coconut flavour and crispy grilled fish. The roti wasn’t what I had in mind; instead of being flaky, it was more like Chinese scallion pancake without the scallions. That being said, it wasn’t too greasy. Unfortunately, the chicken rice was a site disappointment. The rice lacked flavour – it was dry and tasted of bland wood… not the broth of the chicken. The chicken itself was likewise dry and tasteless. We suspect that the owners have indeed changed, explaining the decrease in quality. Overall, a pricey but uneventful meal. Next time, we will likely go to Chiuchow Man next door!
