Excellent food and service! Was stopping in with my father and found this gem close to the Holiday in and Marriott. Has a high end feel, but the prices are down to earth (given the quality of the food). Most importantly the food is delicious! I can personally recommend the short ribs and mussels. It is in a bit of an odd industrial type area, as for warning, but upon entering the restaurant you are transported to the poshest areas of Toronto. It’s as if there was a small wormhole in the doorway, you’d swear it wasn’t the same city, let alone neighborhood. Tldr; amazing high end dinning despite odd location 5/5
I’ve never been disappointed with the great food and service! For vegetarians, I’ve called ahead of time to let them know and they gave me a few options right over the phone.
Not impressed.. Very disappointed. I went here with my one of girlfriends for her birthday since I have been recommend it before on how AMAZING the food is..The food was garbage. I ordered the duck and it came out cold, with uncooked rice that was worse then boxed minute rice. Service was ok, but the food and atmosphere was a big let down. Will not be back for price I paid.
Not vegetarian friendly. My fiance and I are looking for a nice upscale restaurant to go to and upon review Bistro Ones menu, there isnt a single vegetarian item on there wich is very sad since this is 2012 and more than a third of the population is vegetarian now.
High End Meal in an Unexpected Location. This restaurant has gourmet meals and service is at par with 5 star restaurants. One waitress was dedicated to filling everyone’s water glasses. The only criticism was that our waitress missed providing silverware to one person both for the main course and dessert.Located in the industrial district, this isn’t a restaurant you’re likely to come across by accident. And as it was packed on our visit on a Saturday night, my guess is that reservations are required particularly on weekends. The meal started with complimentary kalamata olives marinated in a delicious blend of brine, oil and spices, which we enjoyed while deciding what to order and waiting for our meal.We started with an appetizer of 5-hour cooked duck leg confit with a blackberry/brandy sauce which was shared at our table. I don’t care much for red meat so I only had a small taste and I found the sauce a little too sweet. My husband and sister-in-law disagreed and thought it was wonderful. It was priced at $14 which is quite high for an appetizer, though it was a fair sized portion. For my main course, I had the roasted filet of Atlantic salmon with a pancetta/corn risotto and a warm lobster sauce. I loved the risotto. The blend of flavours was divine. The salmon was nothing special. It was slightly undercooked for my liking and did not seem to be seasoned with anything but a bit of salt and pepper. $29 was a little pricey in my opinion. Both my husband and sister-in-law had the pan roasted filets of Alberta veal with a wild mushroom marsala sauce, pine nuts and roasted potatoes. They absolutely raved about how incredibly delicious their meals were. I was able to take a taste and I agree that their meals were fabulous. The mushrooms were amazing!! The potatoes weren’t anything special and as I don’t like red meat, I’m not one to judge veal but the accents were done to perfection. Though it wasn’t cheap at $36.We ended the meal with coffee and dessert (which doesn’t appear on the website’s menu). The dessert was a toffee cake with a date puree on top. It was incredibly rich and a little too sweet for my liking. Friends of my sister-in-law paid for our dessert so I don’t know the price, though the other menu items are all around $8 so the prices are at the high end.So the bottom line is it’s a good option for celebrating a special occasion with a fancy meal but you won’t want to do it often at these prices.
This place destroys all restaurants in thunder bay. Food is always cooked properly and cooked to whatever you order. And it all tastes so good
