One of my Favourites!. Handu is one of my favourite restaurants in Thunder Bay. After moving here from southern Ontario in the summer, I had been craving Korean food. My partner and I were so pleased to find this restaurant and often go. Normally we choose the AYCE BBQ or Bibimbap (soooo delicious)! The restaurant isn’t normally too busy, which I don’t know why. The prices are great, lots of food and the staff is just lovely. It is a family run business with a clean environment. I will continue to go time after time! 🙂
I liked it, but my family did not. To be fair, my kids hadn’t had much sleep and weren’t in the mood for something new.That being said, the place was empty when we got there and there was one other table seated when we left. It never seems to be busy, and that’s a shame because the food is really good. The service was mostly great. I say mostly, because their son brought a couple of items to the table (and normally, I’d think that was awesome) and I know he hadn’t washed his hands after playing with his brother. It was just a little too much for me, that’s all. Aside from that, they were quick, polite and exceedingly helpful.It’s a family run business and you need to know that the whole family seems to be involved and will be around the restaurant whether they are working there or not. Just be aware of that before you go, so you can be in the right headspace when you get there.

Best BBQ Ever
Huge portions, low prices and tasty. We were just passing through TB on a road trip and got in late on a Sunday night. We were happy to see a Korean BBQ place was one of our options that was still open.At $10 a piece we assumed the Bibimbap was suitable for one person so we ordered one each. Wow, the monstrous portion actually made us chuckle and we ended up eating it for breakfast and lunch the next day. I recommend the Korean style Bibimbap particularly if you love kimchee the way we do. It may not have been the most authentic, particularly since we ordered it for takeout but again, at $10 it was more than fair.Super friendly owners and fast service made it a perfect easy dinner for out hotel room.
Warm service, sizzling BBQ!. Went for all-you can eat BBQ after walking in the cold and damp, and this is the perfect place – the grill was cozy to chat around, the hostess explained everything, and was delightfully charming but not at all intrusive. Cooking grates were changed regularly, and everything was spotless. The meal had a nice selection of meat and seafood, as well as appetizers and veggies – both hot and cold, even without the rice which we didn’t need. All told it was the perfect meal for today – and we even got advice about the right meat and fish selections for the weather. The lamb was incredible and we will definitely be back! In the best traditions of family-run restaurants it is clean, friendly and has one table with the kids’ games and colouring on it.I wish I had taken a photo of our dinner, but we were too busy grilling and eating. Next time!
