I recently moved to Thunder Bay and was craving Italian food. My wife and I decided to go to mama alfas as it was close by and the reviews hinted that it was a great place to have home made style Italian food. I will be the first to admit that the food lived up to that expectation. Mama Alfa not only offered us a sample when we asked for a specialty Alfredo sauce but the food was extremely delicious. HOWEVER. The price of the dish, approximately $27, was extremely overpriced for the portion of the meal. I would have gotten more food for that price that would have tasted just as good from a place like moxies. In addition to that the waitress was not very helpful and borderline rude to my wife when asked about which items on the menu we should try out. While the food was good, based on the price and the behaviour of the waitress I will not visit again and would not recommend this place to a friend. 5/10
Wish Mama’s was in Toronto!!. I was visiting Thunder Bay and found this Italian restaurant through its great reviews, and it didn’t disappoint! The pizza was excellent, and Mama made a vegetarian one especially for me! The house wine was delicious, and her caesar’s salad- crisp romaine with homemade sauce, fresh garlic and parmesan- unforgettable! Mama herself is a sweet and gracious host! Don’t be fooled by the mall strip exterior- the restaurant inside is warm and inviting. This is quality slow cooking, not fast food! Next time I will book up in advance and try her pasta- all made from scratch!
We have been coming to Thunder Bay for the past 4 summers and this food is the reason we keep coming back. Mama’s is all fresh and homemade – authentic Italian. It takes longer than other restaurants but that is because it’s not microwaved nor made in advanced – well worth the wait and part of the fun! We were there Wednesday for pizza and back there tonight for pasta. Just call ahead and order your pasta since it is made to order – you’ll love it!!! Mama, Ralph and entire staff are so friendly and fun, we feel like we are having dinner with family.
Mamas pizza us by far the be…. Mamas pizza is by far the best pizza in Thunder Bay .I have been lucky enough to have had the pasta ,It truly is home made and a lot of heart and soul put into itIf you stop in make sure you have the Caesar saladNot fast food by any definition so do not expect to be in and our in a hurry You might want to call ahead and start your order
A visit to Mama’s is truly a little taste of Italy. There is simply nothing better than authentic Italian pizza…and the real treat is meeting Mama herself. Sit at table 6 and try the Sapori Italiani offerings! Splendido Mama!!
Mama Alfa’s is simply the best.
Mama Alpha is from Rome, and makes traditional style pizza, just like I had in Italy. Delicious! She is a sweetheart as well
