Great lunch by the river …After some shopping, my husband and I decided to grab some grub before heading back to Brantford. After finding a highly rated burger joint closed on a Saturday, we had a hankering for a burger. After reading some reviews we decided to check out LA Franks. Parking was plenty, both in the riverside lot and on the street. Plenty of tables to eat at, including some right along the river bank. Lots of options to choose from and the clientele seemed to be split between ice cream treats and fry truck grub. We ordered a medium fry, medium onion rings, cheese & bacon dog and a southwest ‘holey’ burger. Not sure I like the ‘holey’ burger approach because it just means LESS meat, but it’s a cute spin and everyone needs a gimmick, right? Despite the hole, the burger was GREAT! The spicy mayo had a nice kick and the burger had good seasoning. The hot dog was also tasty, though I did find it a bit on the salty side. Fries and onion rings were great, fresh tasting and not too greasy. It was a TON of food for just over $20. Would definitely recommend to friends/family that find themselves in the area. Oh, be sure to bring cold hard cash. They only accept cash or Canadian tire money. No debit or credit.
Expensive. Very delicious but I found it expensive. Had the pulled pork and paid $6.95 for it, thought it came with fries at that price and it wasn’t even that big. Glad I shared it instead of buying two!! Just because the quality is there you don’t have to pay through the nose for it. Would have it again only if they lowered the price. The chicken fingers are also good but another pricey menu item. Too bad.
The best in summer fast food. LA Frank’s is a quintessential beach front snack shack of unsurpassed quality. Except that its on a river in a small city in Ontario and not the waterfront of LA, and as such they’re only open spring through early fall. But when they are open it’s worth taking the 15 minute detour south off the 401 if you happen to be going past. If nothing else, have one of their extraordinary milk shakes.
