We were so excited to try this place when we heard about homemade pasta since we always look for a place with it no matter where we live .But we were disappointed here since pasta was not the best homemade we have experienced partly because plain sauce on it that was over sweet and no garlic taste. Expected more since place is shall we say casual but prices reflect more upscale price points .To be open minded they are fairly new and building business but if they think orleans is down town its not .We have had many homemade pasta dishes that you litterly lick plate not so much here. Owners are friendly . Wife had a salad and I appetizer each an entree 2 glasses house wine total $99 before tip which we wouldn’t mind normally if felt like we got value for are money we didn’t bother with coffee or desert so can’t review that. We may try again in future when they get better and hopefully have garlic and less sugar. This is not just my opinion but my wife also so that suggested it was not just me.
I wanted SO much to like this restaurant as Orleans needs all the independent eateries it can get. I’m even willing to give La Nonna another chance, but our first visit here was disappointing. The capresi salad was okay but I’ve never had a capresi salad that was actually on an enormous bed of greens. Would have been nice to have gotten more capresi and less salad. The homemade bread was amazing! For my main course, I ordered the lamb shank which was nice, but not excellent. My partner ordered the chicken portafolio which he enjoyed, but he asked for it to be non-breaded and asked for a salad to replace the side of pasta and it was brought breaded and with a side pasta. To their credit, the owners packed him a corrected order to take home. I liked that they make their own pasta in-house, but I so wished the sauce on the pasta was better. The sauce was a very bland tomato sauce that felt like out of a jar. Really ruined the lovely pasta. Next time I’d ask for it with just butter and garlic to really enjoy the homemade pasta. For dessert I ordered the lemoncello creme brule; a nice portion but the custard was too pudding-like. Didn’t even finish it. The owners are truly delightful people, attentive, kind, and generous. I am hoping their food improves.
Very nice main waitress. Two main items (on an already small menu) weren’t available (Pizza & lazagna). The Mista salad taste like FarmBoy Mixed greens with too much bottled dressing poured on top.The pasta wasn’t bad, however mine was over cooked and lacking flavour.Orleans is craving new restaurants that continue to elevate the standard. Unfortunately, this place is not it.
Absolutely the best Italian food and service in the city. Ottawas best kept secret. The fresh pasta and home made sauces are amazing! The service sets the standard! Thank you Luigi
I had the Veal Parmegianwith the spaghetti. Pasta is fresh and oh so great. Bread nice and warm. And he speaks French. Love it. Will go again and again…
Amazing Ambiance. Chef Luigi was amazing. Fresh pasta and bread paired with great wine what is there not to love. Will definitely come back to this great little gem
So i had a craving for Lasagne to pair with a 40$ bottle of wine picked up on a recent wine tour. Called ahead to order Lasagne, but they had just sold out… no problem , Luigi the Chef came on the phone and offered to make a dish that would not disappoint. I agreed and 30 mins later went into the quaint, homey restaurant to pick it up. Very friendly there. My wife remarked to me as we were enjoying this at home, that it was as good as the meals she ate daily on a trip to Italy, I concurred not have being to Italy but do appreciate good food. We will be back and so will our friends and family. Now thats customer service.
