PALKI CUISINE OF INDIA. Four of us went there recently and were warmly greeted by the owner and his wife. The service in the evenings is formal and relaxed. The staff wear crisp white shirts and black tie; were friendly and knowledgeable.Starting with appetizers, we each went with something different. The carrot and orange, and spinach soups were by all accounts delectable. There was a a medley of specially prepped vegetables in a crisp pastry also, and I had large mushroom caps with melted spicy cheeses. Yum.For the main course we ordered four different dishes (which we shared) all of which show the wide diversity of the menu. We had Lamb Banglanjosh, which was bit spicier the the Lamb Masala. The Butter Chicken melted in your mouth and the Curried prawns were to die for! And of course it all worked well with bowls of rice and nan bread. My friends dined with wine for the ladies and an imported beer for my friend. I chose a Mango lassi which was a delicious non-alcohol smoothy and a Perrier chaser. For dessert each couple shared a Pistachio and Mango Kulfi respectively. They’re made in a mold and lightly graced with an icing and garnish. The spacious interior, which can seat up to 200 (great for parties and events) is appointed with soft lighting and nicely developed murals. All in all a truly unique experience in fine dining. I would encourage anyone with an adventurous palette, or a need to escape, however briefly, a cold winter night to take advantage of this marvellous venue.
Must try Buffet!. Took a chance with my lady and tried the buffet. We were greeted by the hostess and seated in a very large eating room. The food was very good and represents excellent value. The atmosphere is very relaxing with Indian music piping as we sat down to eat. A welcome addition to the East end. As an ex-Montrealer I appreciate that the food scene is maturing in Ottawa.Desert note: The green coconut squares were a hit with my lady.
