This is the famous fried chicken place. I have been here many times, the food is good. I highly recommend the fried Cajun fish and the popcorn shrimps. Service can sometimes be slow and the staff gets annoying.
Good days and bad days describes this location of the popular fried chicken franchise. My first experience was good back when the outlet first opened. Spicy chicken and decent sides. Now though the last two times I have eaten here I have been sick in the stomach the next day. Hmm. Shame really. Hoping the hygiene standards are brought back up to scratch. Enjoy!
I have to say Im super shocked about the reviews about this place, unless its totally different than the one on Walkley. My fiancee is from the American South and down there, fried chicken is religion. You cant go anywhere down there without finding chains specializing only in fried chicken and she said Popeyes is somewhere around the middle for good fried chicken. That being said, its head and shoulders above anything we have in Canada, it blows KFC, Chubby Chicken, St. Hubert, any other place that has fried chicken on the menu, completely out of the water. So im confused as to how people can say its greasy or salty…when the competition is so much worse. The one on Walkley is always crazy busy and hasnt let up since it opened. A good indication of how badly Ottawa needed a fried chicken place that makes good fried chicken. Their sides are head and shoulders above anybody elses too.
The chicken is the saltiest I’ve ever tasted in my life! I’m really not sure how anyone can stand it. I couldn’t eat a second piece even though it was purchased as take out for me. Will not recommend it to anyone.
TERRIBLE SERVICE! PEOPLE WALKING OUT ON THEIR ORDERS…EVEN AFTER PAYING. ..LIKELY DUE TO WAIT TIMES.I visited today was made to wait 1 hour for my order and they still screwed it up. The cashier had to be explained how to make change for a fifty and all the while I was watching the manager yack on the phone for almost the full hour andthe assistant manager was holding up the wall doing absolutely nothing aside from staring back at me. Then they ran out of bottles of ice tea and the cashier was required to leave her post in order to go to the basement to get a HOT bottle of ice tea while my chicken got cold.not wanting to make my fellow patrons wait, I decided to call from home. HAH! The manager must still be on the phone as there is no answer and no voice mail. Montreal rd location Ottawa sucks! Chicken us good but not so good to warrant a one hour wait. KFC HERE I COME
Well.. Its fast food. Don’t expect it to look like the commercials. I thought the portions were small for the price. My friend had fish, it was a VERY small portion. Corn on the cob was soggy and coleslaw tastes weird to say the least. Plus we were served by someone in training who made a few mistakes. Not a good experience and will not be returning.
I’ve always enjoyed Popeyes and always went to when every time I visited Toronto, which is why I was ecstatic when I learned that they were finally opening one in Ottawa. They were supposed to open in June, but ended up opening in late October (and their Walkley branch hasn’t even opened yet as of writing this post). Like so many, I was frustrated with their lack of straight forward answers. Turned out the issue was zoning problems. If they just said that straight up, most people would have understood and relaxed their complaints. Anyways, enough rants, how is the food really like?Pretty good. Just as good if not better than the Popeye’s in Toronto. Their biscuits were much softer and I liked how they didn’t charge extra for sauces (my god the blackened buttermilk ranch is to die for). Though I haven’t seen their daily deals and not sure if they’ll introduce it. A major complaint I hear is the service time wait. For a fast food establishment, it is quite slow, but in comparison to other fried chicken establishments, it’s quite average. The manager was quite friendly and reassuring of the customers, which I found quite nice. The place was quite brutal the first 2 weeks, but it has managed to die down.
