Ahhh Denningers. A Hamilton staple, I’ve been coming here for over 20 years, and managed to revisit recently. While i enjoy the grocery portion quite a bit, the hot counter leaves a little bit to be desired, but can serve up a passable lunch.Most recently i had an old favourite – Chicken Courdon Bleu, with RUDY toppings (Ranch sauce basically, lol). They make a good chicken or veal cutlet, and the sandwiches are always well sized. Lunch is always served quickly, and the servers behind the counter are always entertaining and well mannered. The seating area is large and bright in the downtown store, and people file through quickly, but sometimes it is hard to find a seat. You often have to share a table, though that isn’t a bad thing!I think the only complaint i have are the prices. I don’t really feel like what you get demands the price point these days. I miss the Jackson Square store, which i hear they closed due to the coming LRT, and they thought things would slow down? Have you seen the market lately?
This place is a hidden gem. Where else can 2 adults get their tummy filled at breakfast for $15?! Their eggwiches are awesome as long as you get fried onions and put condiments on it. Very filling. Their hearty breakfast is comparable with any major restaurants’ breakfast. With so many different specialty drinks/juices/pop to choose from on top of dessert, definitely a place to go. Even if you get it to go. Fabulous menu for lunch as well!
