  Decent, not ourstanding. I wish there was a way to leave a ‘neutral’ rating on here. I’ve tried quite a few sushi places in Hamilton (and Toronto) and, full disclosure, I’m not exactly easily impressed. Kampai was good. I enjoyed my meal, as did my dining companion, but we both agreed that it wasn’t significantly better than some of the better ayce places around – especially given the price premium. Now, it wasn’t overly expensive, but it was more than the ayce and we were still a little peckish afterward. The futomaki rolls and spicy handrolls were certainly superior here – so if that’s what you’re looking for then I’d recommend Kampai. The wasabi also had more zing, so that was a bonus. I prefer more of the sashimi and basic sushi myself, and the fish here wasn’t any different than the ayce places (but not as good as the really upscale places, of course). The service was friendly, but we didn’t get water refills and my companion didn’t get his tea, and we had to ask to have it taken off the bill at the end. Overall, it was okay, a decent experience, but I probably won’t go back.

  AWESOME. I have recommended it to so many of my friends. Def one of the better places in hamilton. I go there almost once a week. The salmon rose is very very nice a must try for people who like salmon (though on the expensive side)Their sushi is a million times better than the all you can eat places like sapporo and sushi star and their cooked food is also very nice I quite enjoy their yaki udon and terriyaki salmon

  It was okay. I saw the same seafood delivery truck that supplies the all you can eat places too. So save your cash.

  Best Japanese in Hamilton. With the seemingly endless proliferation of mediocre all-you-can-eat sushi restaurants in Hamilton, it’s sometimes easy to forget that Japanese food can be really, really good. I’ve been a regular here since it opened. The staff are very friendly. Everything on the menu is delicious and carefully prepared. Try the spicy sashimi bowl, the gyoza soup and any of the delicious special rolls. If you want to pig out and leave feeling bloated, to go one of Hamilton’s many all-you-can-eat places. But if you want to pay slightly more for high quality food go to Kampai. I’m going to miss this place when I leave Hamilton.
