Amazing food. The only Mexican place we keep going to in this city. English isn’t the first language of all the staff, but that really does just add more to the authenticity.
Like many restaurant goers in Hamilton, I was dismayed at the closure of Mex-I-Can. There are precious few Mexican restaurants in Hamilton, and the loss of the sole offering in the core was a blow. Thankfully, we now have two of them, one of which is Mesa. What can I say about Mesa? For ambience, it hits all the right notes: Latin music playing just loudly enough to encourage conversation but not so loud as to force you to in anything louder than your regular speaking voice. Lots of great details around the dining room to catch your eye. Nice decor, and colorful without descending into garishness. The staff are wonderful: friendly, happy, attentive, and prompt. There is a great selection of tequila, and some great non-mainstream Mexican beer, too (What’s a Corona?). The food is pretty standard Mexican fare but it’s well-prepared, tasty, and the portions are generous without being too big to eat in one sitting, unless you have a stomach the size of a chihuahua’s.I go there about once a month. Not because I dislike the place. I think it’s a great addition to Hamilton’s restaurant scene. I go that rarely because Hamilton now has numerous new restaurants, and I have only so much money I can spend on eating out. Though, if I could, I’d be there every week.
Pretty good Mexican with sizeable portions. Service was friendly and had a pleasant ambience. Clean. It was 3/4 full with patrons on a Wednesday eve. Will definitely return.
Staff could act like they cared a bit more, but otherwise I enjoyed my first visit to Mesa. The beef barbacoa enchiladas were tender and flavourful, with the hot sauce being actually spicy! Will eventually try it again, although I hope the service starts to improve.
Great Mexican food!!Spicy actually means spicy.Substantial portions.Great atmosphere, friendly staff.$50 for two with appetizer and drinks. Thanks,
Finally got to go here for lunch a while ago, and enjoyed it!We had the Beef Barbacoa Enchiladas and the Chicken Chalupas. Both were very meaty, but could have used more toppings and less meat – Sour Cream, Cheese, Sauce, etc. The beans were good, obviously made from scratch (strongly disagree with other reviews), thought he rice WAS tasteless. For service, they were strongly understaffed, and it showed in the slow speed of taking our orders and cashing us out. The food came very quick however, so the kitchen was on point. While it is no Mezcal, the food is far better than the Mule, and I will be back with the family for dinner sometime soon to try out the evening menu.
Went to Mesa yesterday for the first time for diner with friends and family. Amazing experience! This place had high quailty food and very reasonable price. Plates ranging from $10-$15 for entres. We all had something different from the burrito to the chalupas, myself having the tacos with steak and my wife having the chimmichongas with vegetarian cactus. Everyone loved thier meals. Food was fresh, delicious and left me wanting more. Service was friendly and made a clean and cozy atmosphere. We will be returning in the future.
