Yesterday’s dinner was at Williams Cafe at the Marina in Hamilton. After a walk on the trail, my sister thought it would be nice to get something cold to drink and a LIGHT dinner. Light alright! I ordered their chicken pesto panini and a bottle of Perrier. My sister ordered a grilled vegetable panini and a bottle of Perrier. Our bill came to almost $30. First of all, Ive always known panini to be pressed. These were not. When our server casually placed our sandwiched on our table, they appeared flatalmost nothing in the middle but a thin slice of tomato sticking out to the side. I was terrified to look inside the bun so I took a biteand anotherand another. Wheres the chicken? Did they forget to put the chicken? I could taste the pesto and tomato but no chicken! I caved in and opened the sandwich. My displeasure turned into laughter. A few little thinly-sliced pieces of chicken were randomly placed in the center of the ciabatta breadI couldnt resistI had to count the pieces! In my entire sandwich were 8 little pieces of chicken about an inch long, half an inch wide and a quarter of an inch thin. That folks, is the true definition of LIGHT! I have come to a conclusion that you go to Williams Cafe and pay dearly to sit at their table to the view of the lake, although we didnt get a view yesterday because of high winds, so we sat inside overlooking the boats at the marina. If you want a prime view of the lake, pack your lunch/dinner and lay a blanket on the grass and get the best view on the house whilst enjoying a hearty home-packed meal. You can thank me later. The staff are young and appeared bored and displeased with what they do. They almost seem lifeless and uncaring and not wanting to be there. Im sorry but Williams Cafe just got placed at the bottom of my-worst-places-to-eat list. Will definitely never ever go back!
This place has become my family’s favouriteto go place. Not so much for the food ( Although it is good) but for the atmosphere. Day or night , it is a great place to experience.Atmosphere- This is why we come. Location, location, location. This to me is one of the best places to experience Hamilton at its best. The city run ice rink in winter and roller rink ( sometimes salsa place) in summer is a great place to be and /williams patio over looks it all. In addition to watching the boats in Hamilton Bay. After dinner you can stroll along the waterfront with the view of the whole Bay. Spend a day and rent a bike, take a boat ride or take a trolley to the other 2 parks nearby ( If you don’t want to or cant walk)Food- Food is good but I wouldn’t say great. I have tried almost everything on the menu. The salads are the best here for sure. The strawberry spinach one is my favourite. My standby is usually the turkey cranberry or egg salad sandwich. I like the egg sandwich with avocado as well. I would stay away from the quiche. They always taste like rubbery eggs to me. ( with little no crust)Service- You order at front and servers bring meal to table. UIt is usually hard to find someone after you get served for anything. II dont like that you have to line up to get another drink etc. So make sure you have everything you want ordered the first time.Impression- The atmosphere will have me and my family coming back for ears to come.
I have been here so many times because my mom likes to meet up here for coffee. If she didn’t like it, I wouldn’t step foot in this place . It is over priced for crappy food masquerading as healthy, good food. I don’t mind the coffee, it is ok. A little strong. I have never tried the baked goods. They may also be good..I have tried breakfast and lunch foods. All gross. The worst was the bento box . Waited over 20 min to receive something that resembled a microwaved dinner. The rice was not even cooked..so hard and crunchy. Rather than wait another 20 min for crap I threw it out and left . Never again.
