This is a great addition to the Burlington dining scene. The whole family enjoyed the meal and there are so many varieties of food to share. We highly recommend all of it.
Tonight I took my daughter out for her birthday dinner. A friend had raved about this place and this was the perfect opportunity to share a special meal there.Atmosphere- It is situated in the Food Basics strip mall between Platos closet ( secondhand store) and a cleaners. As with people you never judge a place by it’s cover. Inside, you immediately notice the bar with what looks like it is made from refurbished wood. That combined with the inviting orange walls and the open stainless kitchen in the back makes you feel like sitting down and staying for a while. The menu offers pizzas but we wanted to try the tapas.Food- We started with a beer and a diet coke. I was a little miffed when a bottle of diet coke arrived in this caliper of place. This seems to be the trend. I guess gone are the days of refills. I was also taught by my mother in law that you never placed any original jar on the table for a fine meal. Things should be decanted. This included ketchup in her home but I think the bottle is just tacky. We experienced the following( in this order)- 1) The calamari and octopus with olives and cherry tomatoes ( dish comes with hot peppers but we asked not to have them) Wow! Loved the octopus. When I told the waiter this he said that a lot of repeat customers ask for double octopus and no calamari and I knew then that is my request for next time. Now, don’t get me wrong, the calamari as good but the octopus with the lemon drizzle was a standout. 2) Next up was the mussels- they come in either a white ( our choice) or red sauce. Now after the first dish I thought it would be downhill. Was I wrong. The mussels were the bet I have ever eaten. This white sauce also had dollops of goat cheese on them. I would come back for this dish alone. The downfall to this dish was that a few of the piece of bread served with this dish was noticeably stale. It is a Sunday evening and maybe there was not enough fresh bread for the day made they had to use day old. It was strange that only 2 pieces were this way. 3) We then had the bruschetta trio- Three toasted bread with the following toppings- a) garlic hummus, cheese, and tomatoes (good), b) black bean salsa ( better- It would be better with naucho chips), and olive tamponade ( awesome) 4) grilled asparagus side- lightly flavoured with great effect I do feel there should have been a few more spears. 5) cornbread muffins with charizo jam and a lime sauce- I was almost breaded out by now and cornbread is not my favourite so I did not particularly like the cornbread but I did love the charizo jam. My daughter said she liked the combination of all three flavours a lot but would have preferred having this dish sooner in the lineup. 6) Marscapone cheese and berry pizza was a perfect choice to finish off this wonderful meal. The pizza was light and topped with warm blackberries, blueberries and raspberries. I would have liked it with a touch of something cold to go with that heat ( ice cream would work well) 7) To end the meal my daughter sipped a blueberry tea ( Amaretto and Grand Mariner soaked blueberries in and brandy sniffer with hot tea) When the tea is poured onto mixture the result is extremely fragrant and delicious. I must admit the warm soaked blueberries at the bottom of the glass is one of the best possible tastes to end a meal.Service- The waiter was extremely attentive. He asked after each dish how we enjoyed it. He brought a glass of ice when he noticed my daughter had not started her hot blueberry tea drink yet.Impression- This may be one my new favourite places. I can’t wait to introduce it to my friends. I just think they should drop the bottles of pop.
