Bridal Shower. We recently had a bridal shower at Blackshop and we were completely amazed with the food and the service. I live in Toronto and Blackshop, in my view, has better quality food and the service is second to none. It is really first class all the way! Thank you so much to the owner JohnCerny and Tatiana and all the staff at Blackshop for making this such a special event!!!
Lovely atmosphere and nice drinks. Mussels were tasty but skimpy portion. Had the flat iron steak special. Risotto and mushrooms were awesome. Steak was good – a little tough. Complimentary birthday dessert was a nice touch. Overall, good but expect to pay the most in the city for a meal.
Consistently Delicious. We are never disappointed at the Blackshop. The food is fresh and delicious. The atmosphere is stylish yet comfortable. The staff are attentive and helpful. The Blackshop delivers top value.
Very Disappointed. I was recently at this restaurant for the second time, and was extremely disappointed with the quality of food and its price. The first time I was there, the food was (just) okay, but I really liked the atmosphere and the server. This final time, I specially-requested a vegetarian meal, and was simply given a double-size quantity of lettuce in a bowl with 2-3 cherry tomatoes; the dressing was cheap bottled Italian. There was nothing else in it. The price for this ‘meal’ was $16. This is the largest and most absurd discrepancy I’ve seen between something I have been served in a restaurant and its price.
Great Service!. Many visits to Blackshop and every time we leave happy. Food and service are great! Will visit again!
Severely overrated. For the money you’ll spend here you can have a meal ten times better at Napa and have money in your pocket when you go home.
Bjorn looked after us with charm and grace. The stand out of our evening at Blackshop! was our server, Bjorn. He was attentive and keen to serve. The place was not very full the night the 4 of us dined but he was hopping from table to table, trying to keep the symphony going at the right pace. The food however was not as consistent. I started with the special soup. A sweet and spicy carrot soup. Although it seemed like to was prepared with care, the flavours didn’t pull together. The carrot taste was very understated. The sweet, almost a bottled flavour and the spicy was too dominating. And I like spicy (in balance). Two others tried the French Onion soup. It was ‘fine’. We were served buns with our meals. Fresh and warm – a plus. But not super special. On to the mains. One jager schnitzel, one salmon and two seafood specials of arctic char. I stole a taste of the schnitzel. A bit dry for my liking but it appeared to suit the diner as the the plate was emptied. The salmon was a bit dry but still tasty enough. It was placed on a bed of lobster and brie mash. Although not off putting, it just seemed to not match the salmon. The arctic char dishes came with a handsome portion of fish that was perfectly cooked. However, the jade rice should not have left the kitchen. It was very gloppy and poorly seasoned. We both found it inedible and left it. It was served with steamed bok choy which we both enjoyed. To be helpful, we mentioned the jade rice, thinking they may want to check into it. Our feedback was well received as they offered the two of us each a dessert on the house. I was not looking for that or expecting that. A nice touch to whomever made that decision. I picked the carrot cake. It was fresh. I don’t tend to go for the icing that is typically on a carrot cake but I do like the spicy cake itself. The other complementary dessert was a chocolate truffle cake that was also well received. A third guest went for the peanut butter chocolate ice cream. Three balls of ice cream. He liked it too. We skipped on coffee as the evening was getting late. If I go back I think I will try the paella as Bjorn recommended in the first place.
